Check my Tire Rack winter setup before I buy
Hi all, I just wanted to run this by the forum before I pulled the trigger. I'm on a budget so I guess I'm compromising a bit on the looks of the wheel (I'd like to do better, but don't see many options I like on Tirerack).
1) I wanted to do a skinnier tire to deal with the snow a bit better. 2) I wish I could have done TPMS but it seems to be a rip-off 3) I'd like to keep the price below $1200 or so, I don't see a configuration that I love on Tirerack that gets me there. What do you think of the Yokohama IG52C i 225/45/18? Do you think I could get a better wheel for that price or less? I would have hoped for the Rial P10 but they're expensive through Tirerack. Here's the pricing breakdown: TRMotorsport C4 @ $145.00 each Yokohama ICEGUARD IG52C - SIZE: 225/45R18 @ $129.30 each $1097.20 Total, no shipping if I pick it up from DE. Yes, that will look very weird......basically 40mm’s narrower or 3 + inches
narrower than the tire is supposed to be, tire sizes are not guess work, they are engineered to work systemically with your vehicle. All you actually have holding your car on the road is that contact patch of tire. You may be better off looking for a used set of winter’s on the Member Stuff for Sale here on Bimmerpost. My experience, and I consider myself pretty old, been driving for 40 years, is that all tire dealers I have dealt with, without exception, will sell you anything if you are gullible enough to listen. You own a close to $90k car, do your homework and get a good winter setup, that way you won’t be a danger to those driving around you. |

I'm going with stock sizes in performance winters. They get the roads plowed around here fast. If we get a blizzard I will not drive, rather than sacrifice all the performance and fun of the car. |

You get what you pay for. Why spend so much money on a car and then cheap out at the tires? I get that you're on a budget, but that should have been one of the considerations when you purchased the car... the exorbitant amount of money that you will have to pay over time on tires. Your wheel selection... yeah you can have some flexibility there. BMW recommends a 255 tire size for the F8X for winters... and I think that speaks for itself. |

I have 225's from my 435 and was just told by TireRack that they're narrower than recommended.
will almost certainly get new set of 255's
