If I install the above with my existing mods, will the ESS tune still exist if I remove the MHD? The old ESS stage 3 was a reprogrammed unit, not a piggyback.

You can use MHD with the Logging module (purchased) without making any changes to your DME flash- It's logging via the OBD2 so no worries at this point.

If you elect to purchase one or more of the Map Packs then the first step in the install process is to pull a backup of your current DME flash- in this case your ESS Stage 3. You will want to put copies of this backup in other places, in case your phone/tablet dies or is replaced, so you can restore it if you decide to uninstall the MHD flash. Doing so would put you back to your current ESS S3.

Without that backup to reinstall/restore MHD will install a stock ROM. You can also flash a "Stage 0" which is the same thing, but without uninstalling MHD- same as flashing any of the purchased maps. MHD is VIN locked at purchase, and while you can run it on multiple devices like phone and tablet, or get a new phone & download again from store, only the device that ran the original backup/install process will have the original flash!! Copy that file and put it in a few safe places...

So, Yes your tune will still exist and can be restored providing you don't lose it. If you do lose your backup a base map will be used when uninstalling MHD. I have my PPK1 original map scattered all over the place- dropbox, emailed it to myself etc...
