I am really tempted to get the new Ninja 250, but the rents would disown me

Thank the Good Lord its not the ZX10R. That bike is just....... ughhh....

Congrats on the bike. I was very seriously thinking about a '07 ZX6R myself in that silver/black with red pinstriping combo last year. But finally settled on a Triumph Daytona 675.
Your lucky though, your bike has such a more diverse aftermarket offering for parts then mine does.

Congrats on the new bike

Here's a pic of my '07 Yamaha R1 I just picked up as a leftover at the dealer in December of '07. I just hit 400 miles on it the other day. I've since added quite a few mods since these pics....you can see my 525 in the background as well as the corner of my Z4 with M6 wheels.

^ Bikes dont kill. been riding for 19 years and not so much as a single close call, and that includes a fair bit of track time.
Its dumbasses that speed through intersections, tailgait, ride beyond their limits, stunt, speed recklously that cause accidents. I dont do a single one of those, and I never will.
And whats the verdict?....not so much as a single close call.

Morons on bikes = death
people that have common sense on bikes = countless years of safe riding.

I agree with you that morons on bikes = death... however, sometimes it doesnt really matter on how safe you ride.. accidents can happen even if its not your fault. I guess his wife just doesnt want to risk having him get into a bike accident. Falling off a bike even while doing speed limit will be pretty bad.

It is not always you, it is all the cell phone, makeup applicating, drunk, prozac taking, inattentive cage drivers. Count yourself blessed! When it comes to bike riders the old saying rings true..."There are only riders that have gone down and those that are going to. Enjoy the time in between!" I am not antibike and I have had a lot of bikes over the years. It is just that your statements smack of 'head in the sand' mentality. Be safe as you can!

I almost got a ZX-10R before I bought my Zed... what is wrong with those?

My first bike is the one I have now. Lime green ZX-7R.

I finally gave up bikes after about 25 years of riding and somewhere around 200k miles. I got forced off the road by a dumb broad on her cell phone in an SUV. I've hit the pavement twice with thousands of dollars in damage to the bikes and a little permanent damage to me. It's been two years without a bike and i'm feeling the need again, especially with gas prices the way they are!

reading this thread there are 3 categories of Z4 owners:
1. Those who have a bike.
2. Those who are in between bikes.
3. Those who want a bike but don't have one because of their wife/parents.

I had been giving the privilege of keeping my GF's uncles 2003 ZX-12R for a periode of three weeks. I felt i needed to make up for his generosity by changing his oil, so i went and bought a filter and bottle of oil but the bike lacked a bolt for the rear swingarm so i couldnt jack the bike. I know i could of bought one but he kept telling me to forget about it and just ride, I asked if he had checked the oil level recently and he said yes it was fine. ANYWAYS enough background, i was on a great ride 3 weeks into my
" ownership experience" and had really begun to click with the 12R.... Went wide open down an empty straightaway and when i shifted from 3rd to 4th around 145mph i noticed i was not gaining speed as quickly, so i tucked harder and kept it buried but then heard a THWAK THWAK THWAK coming from the engine at 151mph, So i got outta the tuck pulled the clutch at 130 and immediatlely the engine died and i rolled to a stop at the side of the road. I had no idea what happened so i tried to start the bike but nothing, so i decided to try and bump start it ( try pushing a 550lbs bike fast enough to do that) and when i did i pop it into first and dropped the clutch and he KWAK just locked the rear. OK big problems! pushed the bike 2 miles to what turned out to be an abandoned gas station and got out the manual. Checked the oil level and there was NOTHING i mean NOTHING! Waited for my bro to come pick me up and left the bike at a very freindly mans house under a tarp and came back in the morning with a UHAUL. Full rebuild and cost to come. Leason learned, PACK YOU OWN PARACHUTE!!!!!!!!! Dont trust anyone else's word, when it comes to your life check all essential systems yourself. I have several years riding experience and have ridden many sportbikes so i am not a dumb squid. WORST thing is ALL I WANNA DO is get back in the saddle and enjoy the monster torque and Hp of that bike ( 162.5 rwhp 96RWTQ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

have you seen the BRAND new ones? for 2008? Holy Bejesus.......
Probably the ugliest bike of the decade. You'll know when you see it.

Actually, your exact bike, is one of my all time favorites in the motorcycle world. I absolutely love the look of that era of ninja's. The headlights, the lines... the lettering. Definately a favorite.

But to the comments about "head in the sand". In reality, keeping a very safe following distance (two second rule) and scanning your mirrors every 10 seconds at the most (to know your surroundings) has been infinately valuable I find. Its annoying to remember to check the mirrors very often, but quickly it becomes a habit, and I dont even notice I do it. I too have had idiots with cell phones or whatever pull into my lane without checking, and so on and on. Been riding bikes on the road (not so legally of course) since I was 14 so 11 years now. Just knowing my surroundings and always having an escape route alone has served me quite well.

But yes I agree, nobody is bulletproof, and stupid accidents do happen, so thats why I always ride with my gear on... just in case it ever does for the first time

BTW: Bammered. The ZX-12 is one of the fastest production bikes ever. I was about to buy a used one. Amazing aren't they? so much power its absolutely stupid. :
