I really like these kinda games where it makes you think about the car ownership itself, not so much the car, know what I mean?

I'll start

- When people ask what you drive, you basically always have to say "think a 3 series, but a size smaller"

And go!

When some random woman sees your car and says "your car is really cute." Man, I hate that. lol

This happened to me at a detailer I used to go to a few years ago. I replied jokingly "thanks but please don't say my car is cute."

The last thing I want is for my car to be cute. A New Beetle is cute. Especially when the ladies put eyelashes above the headlights.

Yes, I guess my masculinity was threatened.

Besides, the 1er is badass!

I usually reply with a question "Why would I want a slower car?"

That's what I say lol. 135is is a sports coupe, 335is is more of a grand tourer. Kind of like the 2 series to 4 series comparison.

I've gotten that a few times. People are usually confused it's both RWD and 6cyl

Yeah, considering a lot of FWD, 4 cylinder econoboxes are bigger than the 1er; sometimes they are mistaken for that by people who don't know cars. Car enthusiasts know what ours cars are though. A guy at the dealer a few weeks ago with a modded M4 called my 1er a "camaro killer." I'll take that over "cute" any day.

"bmw 1 series"
at this point they either know it and say "wow that's awesome assuming I drive a 1M" or "why/is it fast/what engine?"
"straight six..... turbo"
"wait what?"
"yeah the 3 series engine"
"oh that MUST be fast"
"fast enough"

E90Post is a shit show. I go over there maybe once a week, and I'm usually reminded why I left.

Someone who was upside down on a 335i loan, asking if he should buy an E92 M3 comes to mind.

And don't even get me started on this stance trend. I'm SO thankful basically everyone here takes maintenance seriously and most mods are for the benefit of driving experience or performance. Not to stuff 20" wheels into cut-up fenders at -15° camber.

I remember it from the good old days, discovered the place in circa 08 right when we were shopping for one. It's really interesting how much it changed over the years with new people and cars getting cheaper.

Honestly I thought they were like Euro-only, or 2013+ or "out of my reach" basically, until the day I found mine on Autotrader. I stopped searching for "3 series, manual" and looked up "BMW, manual" and lo and behold.

I remember someone talking about exactly this with every generation of BMW - as the cars decrease in value the "riff raff" buys them and the forums go downhill. Trust me I love having more people in the community, but a $7000 2007 335i with 100k+ miles is just begging for trouble.

I couldn't agree with this more and it's one of the things that helped my decision. The odds of seeing another 1 that's slammed with 'sick wheels brah' are pretty damn low compared to that being like half of the older 3 series on the road.
