Clutch squeak driving me insane
So my 135i recently got a new clutch and flywheel, spec stage 2+. Now after putting about 1200 miles on the clutch I'm getting a squeak almost every time I engage the clutch in 1st gear. It's a real quick squeak, sometimes it squeaks twice on engagement, but never does it squeak going into other gears, only first. I'm pretty sure I need new trans mounts but I'm not sure if that could be the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated

dude, this is exactly the sound i'm experiencing, I have the same clutch and flywheel setup, spec stage 2+ and steel SMFW, installed by BMW specialty shop (along with 034 mounts and e46 M3 trans mounts) in LA that has done dozens of clutches on n5x cars. showed up about 1500 miles after install too.
i'll share with them and see what they say - we'll solve this |

It only chatters in first since that is the only time you are mating surfaces with massively different speeds. One stationary and one at 1500 or so.
When up shifting or down shifting you are likely rev matching and there is no speed difference between the clutch parts. If you search "Spec Stage 2+ chatter " you get a ton of hits. Sounds like it is pretty common.

sorry Ric but this is not chatter, chatter is normal upon engagement and sounds like a rhythmic clack, this is a hardware issue

just sent the video to spec and spoke to their tech. he believes it is a pilot bearing or input shaft bearing (trans) issue, which is possible. he will sell us brand new pilot bearings for $15...of course we have to take everything apart to install
how many miles on your car btw? |
