Removing AC expansion valve to reach secondary air vavle
Hi
I'm retrying to replace the secondary air values for bank 2 and the AC expansion value is in the way. Notice the secondary air valve is in the background. Any one had experience doing that? Hopefully I don't leak any freons. Thanks, David |

Im no mechanical engineer but from what i remember an expansion valve is a regular part of the refrigeration cycle. Chances are high you are going to be exposed to refrigerant.

First, you will ABSOLUTELY vent all of your refrigerant if you attempt to remove the expansion valve. If you don't safely evacuate your refrigerant before attempting to remove the valve the refrigerant will be discharged explosively due to the system's resting pressure. I highly advise against this approach.
Secondly, you don't need to remove the expansion valve to replace the secondary air valve. You just need a small 1/4" drive ratchet and 10mm socket. Or a box end wrench will work also to loosen the nuts on each valve. It's cramped but easily doable if you have a slight amount of patience an/or smaller hands. |
