Has anyone retrofitted the newer style iDrive controller?

Noticed the later 2017 build cars were coming with the newer flatter style iDrive controllers. They appear to be the same shape/size. Just curious if anyone's attempted to retrofit this yet?

Many, including myself, have retrofitted other nicer controllers such as the X5 ceramic controller.

Based on RealOEM part info, should not be an issue for you as long as your car is a mid 2014+ unit with the controller on KCAN-2 instead of K-CAN as the earlier models are.

You wouldn't happen to have a pic of the ceramic iDrive controller?

Thanks for posting pics. Now I see. I'm not too interested in the ceramic knob but more with the newer smoother button layout. Like this:

Heads up, you'll lose the lit up ring on the knob if that matters to you

The part number for the new flat button controller is 65826844224

The ceramic is 65826844225

Neither of those part numbers can be googled though

Here's a users ceramic on eBay http://m.ebay.com/itm/OEM-16-2017-BM...%257Ciid%253A4

I've put the newer style knob in my car, the non ceramic version. I've also retrofitted the new ID5 head unit into it too. The flat buttons do feel nicer.

How did you manage this as some of the buttons are different? Did it require coding?

If you have iDrive 5/6 then the new buttons apply so no additional coding is needed
