Help requested want to move up to M5 from E90M3

Want to move on from my e90 M3 decided on the F10 M5 vs. F80 M3.

Is CPO worth it? Seems that BMW scaled back the worthiness of this starting in 2014.When Cpo'ed they demand higher price. For example there is one priced at 65k CPO with 19k miles with CP/LED/EXEC is that high? Read that they keep dropping and 60k should be max

Would I be better off buying from private party/non BMW dealer and not worrying about CPO?

Anything I should be wary of our look out for?

Definitely want CP/EXEC/LED

Colors I'm eyeballing
  • Silverstone II: (not sure on this one it's more of I have a Jerez Black now want somthing different deal)
  • Singapore Grey
  • Black Sapphire (Safe Choice)
  • MCB (like it but don't think I could live with it)

Definitely CPO... These cars have very expensive parts and service will be costly.

Is this a fair price? Looks to have pretty much all options.

'14 CP Black 6MT? IMO, not worth 64k.

It has DCT, not sure why they list the transmission as a manual, I guess for lack of a better option.

According to BMW Vin Decoder it basically has LED/EXEC/CP/B&O

The way to think of this is as follows:

Find out the price of a BMW Platinum extended warranty. That is the value of buying a private car and adding a warranty equivalent to CPO. So if the Platinum warranty is $5k, then a 5k price difference is justified. If it is 2k, then only 2k is justified.

A quick search of the forum surfaced these 2 guys as people who have given out good pricing on a BMW extended warranty
joey.floyd@athensbmw.com
Jeff.Steel@passportauto.com

Make sure they quote you a BMW Platinum warranty and not something else. There are a lot of warranties out there, but the BMW Platinum is virtually identical to the CPO.

Never heard of this warranty. I imagine for this vehicle it will be in the 5k range but thank you for the info.

While having a warranty is always good of course in my situation I will never mile out I only put 7k a year on max it may be worth the risk so to speak to pick up a low mileage private party with only the remaining factory warranty.

Of course I had the same situation with my M3 and it would have been nice to have a warranty to replace my leaking evaporator which is conveniently tucked away behind the dash!

Anybody know this outfit? http://Californiabeemers.com

Found this listing price seems quite fair, enough where I would consider having it shipped

Would love to hear from people who made the jump on what the experience was like.

Any regrets?

If you're going to buy off someone who isn't a BMW dealer, then buy off someone from this board. Third part dealers are the worst. The best cars are the ones cared for from new by an enthusiast.

I hear you but there doesn't appear to be but a couple actively for sale unless I'm missing something and only 1 that comes close but it's in SF which is 2500 miles away.

I don't know how the system works really but the majority of the M5's for sale at BMW dealerships were not traded in or lease returns at the dealership.

They seem to be nearly all lease returns that went to auction and ended up somewhere else. I imagine there is a BMW dealer only auction first that pick the creme of the crop then the left overs go to used car operations whether they are strictly used cars or some other new car dealers used lot.

I think this is why BMWs depreciate so much. Porsche forces their dealers to buy a certain percentage. Plus low production volume Means dealers need used sales to increase profits.

Picked up CPO 14' M5 with CP/EXEC/LED/B&O all I can say is wow what a completely different car compared to the M3

Talk about having to go easy on the throttle! Feel like I'm going to spin the tires at every stoplight.
