Wicked clanking rattle in roof?

Anybody else had this issue?
My 2012 135i 6MT looks and drives like a new car BUT
when I hit a sharp edged bump or expansion strip or pothole at moderate speed there is a wicked clanking noise in the roof behind the moonroof. Driving me nuts. Sounds like metal hitting glass.....
I will take it in to the dealer soon as I just got the letter for the driveshaft/CV joint recall. I really hope they can fix this rattle because it's bad enough to ruin my enjoyment of the car.

Doesn't sound normal at all, my roof is dead silent. Only rattles are the armrest, which is more of a creak, and the loose stuff in my cabin.

Yeah, I don't get that sound either. I'm with you though on certain sounds a car can make that will ruin the driving experience. Hopefully your dealer can sort this out for you. Let us know what they say about it.

This happened to my colleague 6-7 years ago in his 2011 135i. Taking it to the dealer will likely do nothing to solve the issue. They tend not to care about squeaks and rattles. You'll likely be met with, "could not replicate issue."

My colleague took the car to the dealer 3-4 times and they were never able to solve it. He finally found the issue while messing around in his garage one evening: apparently there are some tension cables running between the roof panel and the headliner. One of these had popped loose from its fitting and had been smacking the roof and headliner every time he went over a bump. He insulated the rogue cable and the problem was solved. Good luck!

This is great. I've had a hard pop sound coming from the rear roof area for quite some time, especially when it's cold outside. Stupid sunroof. Wish I could have gotten my 1er without one now.

Likewise, I usually seek out a slitktop. Not possible with the 135i.

Thanks for the info.
Just for the record - I hate sunroofs. Even when they call them moonroofs.
Our Acura TL also makes stupid sounds from the roof. Acura has a TSB on it wherein it takes about 4.5 hrs to fix the stupid roof rattle. I would definitely delete it if I had a choice. Who dreams up this shit?
