Trickle Charge

Can a trickle charg be continuously connected or should it just be periodically connected. Sometime I do not drive the car for an entire week and want to keep the battery charged.

You can keep it connected. Most trickle chargers have built-in overcharge protection, so it will turn itself off when it detects the battery is fully charged. My aunt had her winter SUV garaged for 8-10 months at a time with a trickle charger on it that entire time and never had an issue.

Just make sure it has overcharge protection and it'll be fine

Buy a reputable brand battery tender / maintainer. I have one for my bike and had one for my Audi before I sold it (plugged in for months while stored for winter).

This is it. You want a smart charger/maintainer not a trickle charger. BMW as well as others sell good units for around $60. Mine is on for 5 months continuously during winter storage as well as anytime the car sits for more than a week. Still on the original battery.

A week is inconsequential. Don't bother with the charger.
