Connected services for Canada
What services can we use through internet for our M3/M4 ? In my car I activated the GPS location for parking, but cannot find the proper app for BMW in Canada. In the owner manual they mention we can lock/unlock the doors through this app......
Any other Canadian owner here can help me ? I'm new to this "wireless" access. Also since the car is connected and have an hotspot. who's paying for the service ? It's free for 4 years, right ? For the Apple CarPlay, I believe it shows only the recommended app, on the screen ? We can't see any app of our choice instead ?

Hi,
There is a "real" BMW Connected app only for the US and one for us, second citizens Canadians. You want the one called BMW Connected Classic which is pretty much the same app since 6-7 years ago... Not the greatest but it works. You might want the BMW M Laptimer. Now, that's a cool one if you ever want to track your car. |

These are all questions that's your local BMW dealer genius should be answering. You paid for the service when you bought the car, they should be delivering you a working connected car with instructions and all questions answered.

I find dealers usually don't know squat about the cars, even the so called geniuses

On my 2017 BMW M4, I thought I read somewhere that it has Wireless Charging and Wireless hotspot although I was never able to find that wireless hotspot in the iDrive or how to activate it.
I hope my next 2018 M4 that I ordered will have that wirless hotspot |

I'm in Canada as well and use the "BMW Remote" app. I can turn on the climate control, lock/unlock the car, sound the horn and flash the headlights.
The wireless hotspot is only good for up to 3gb then you have to buy a monthly data subscription if you want to continue. Frankly I don't see the value in this since I already have a generous data plan on my iPhone. Apple strictly controls the entire CarPlay experience. You can only use apps that are designed for it. You can check online for a list of supported apps. |
