Why is receiving text messages so inconsistent?

2017 M4 and I have everything set up as per multiple instructions and yet I still don't get text messages all the time?

Anyone have any ideas?

IPhones are traditionally inconsistent.
Androids are more reliable with IDrive.

Says the hundreds of posts I have read on the subject as well as personal accounts told to me from vehicles I coded.

If your IPhones and BMW Office Functions have been consistent, I would consider yourself lucky.

Honestly, i dont see the point of seeing text on my idrive. Its not like Im going to text back while im driving so I opted to not even bother with this. Plus i have a vent magnet that placed my phone where i can clearly see it any way if absolutely necessary. But i do find it interesting that some people actually use that text function on th screen.

I never read my emails, but do my texts all the time. The vehicle will also read them to the driver. Plus, you can use Siri or Google Assistant to reply while driving.

I must be lucky - had them work over 2 different cars and about 4 or 5 phones now.

What problems are people having? Did it ever work? Are all your settings (including those you need to set on your iPhone) correct?

I get new phones every year (I develop iPhone software - I need to test on all devices) and new cars every 3 years - not had a problem. Many people forget to set the option in the Bluetooth (on the iPhone) for their car saying "Show Notifications" - that's basically what pushes a new text message to the car.

Go to Bluetooth on your phone. Click your Bmw Bluetooth name. And make sure you click on sync notifications. Problem solved. Always works

You don't have it for the first few mins you connect. It should show up afterwards

Should be there all the time. I'm in my apartment, not connected to my car, and the "Show Notifications" is there.

Just out of interest - is your phone connected? Do you see the 5 signal strength bars in the iDrive screen?

Damn. I'll take screen shots of all my settings and see if that helps. Although personally, I don't use music through it - I wonder if somehow the Bluetooth audio interferes with the notifications?
