I'm Blue with the Blues

Hi, all!

I get to order my M3 this year. I'm SO excited. Also, I LOVE the color blue. I loved my Cobalt Blue and Aqua Blue Boxsters. My Estoril blue 4er is pretty beautiful as well. Estoril Blue is probably my favorite BMW blues. I mean, who can argue...

Please don't shoot me, but YMB is not my favorite. I looks great in low light, the showroom, in the garage, but in the sun, omg, I can't.

I'm willing to to spend the $5k on an Individual color by foregoing DCT and some options. But, I simply cannot find a color I'm falling for. The list is:

- Atlantis Blue: I really love Atlantis in some pictures. I just don't know if it's too green for me. It's amazing in the sun, but super green in the shade. And, I love a strong blue.
- Santorini Blue: This is a cool, flat color! A top contender. Almost like Porsche's Voodoo Blue.
- Mexico Blue (Porsche): Not sure if it fits this the car. Some pictures I like, some look too Miami Blue (from Porsche).
- San Marino Blue: I LOVE this color. It may be too dark.
- Sonic Speed Blue: Looks great on the 6 series. Need to see it in real life. But This looks about perfect (Close to Estoril, perhaps?)
- Marina Bay Blue: How is this different than Sonic Speed? LOL
- Voodoo Blue (Porsche): OMG this color
- Sapphire Blue (Porsche): It's so warm and exciting. But, the fact that every 4-banger Macan in the city is painted this color stinks.

Also, we have the problem of what BMW Individual will accept. Who knows if they'll even paint the car Sonic Speed Blue, Marina Bay Blue, Sapphire or Voodoo Blue. Also, of the two former become normal colors for the 5/6 series range, it's not that special. Who knows if they'll even do Individual colors for MY18 in July.

I was considering the $2k option of Tanzanite. I drove to a dealer in town yesterday that had one in stock. And, sadly, even on a sunny day it was too dark for me.

This has left me extremely blue. What would you do?

I am in the same boat. In the market for a new M3 and really want to get a shade of blue. Had my heart set on Atlantis but not sure I want to pay the premium (I think it is $5200?).

Seems like going with Estoril individual on the M3 will be a good choice for you! Have you considered that? I'm sure BMW will approve that..

Have you see the spy shots of the Marina Bay Blue M4 CS? Seems to me that you should at least take a look.

Long Beach Blue looks great on the M4 as well.

Lots of other possibilities exist:

These two look like they are in keeping with what you are looking for, for example:

If I ever went with an individual color it would be SMB, that color is stunning in person. Atlantis would be a close second.

As alexc93 said, Estoril Individual sounds like the winner for you... but paying a premium for a color found on a "normal" 4 series just seems wrong.

Garage List
Long Beach Blue (available as a standard color on the M2). It's a stunning color on an M4 and IMHO, looks better on an M4 than an M2. Would probably look just as good on an M3. Here's a pic of a friend's Long Beach Blue M4 next to my car:

you shouldn't have a problem spec'ing "sonic speed blue" if that is the way you wanna go; it is now available for the 2018 6er gran coupes (whose production starts in march) as part of that car's standard 2018 colour palette.

When they released the pictures of the 2018 M3 they were showing a blue one. Not sure exactly which blue that is, but my guess is that they are adding that color as a standard this year. If you are going with an individual color though, San Marino blue can't be beat in my opinion.

My thoughts exactly. Same for Long Beach Blue for the M2 and X5/6. It's a psychological thing really. If I'm going to pay $5k for a color, it needs to be not a run-of-the-mill color.

To the OP, reading your 'evidence' you are a Santorini / Enzian guy based on your reaction to it on the BMW and the (Voodoo Blue) from Porsche.

and in the end, the decision is in your eyes alone.

It's not a new color; it's actually Tanzanite. This was confirmed via vin-check in the 4 Series and M4 LCI thread. Furthermore, there are no new colors listed in the official MY2018 M4 ordering and pricing guides.

The M4 CS, which is coming sometime this year - possibly July, appears to feature the new Marina Bay Blue. It is possible the color could be added to the standard M4 palette at that time as well, but it is perhaps more likely to be a CS exclusive.

My vote would be santorini for the F80 platform of the list you have there. Really pops. Good luck with your order!

BMW must of faked the color with that MY18 M3 preview video, because it's lighter than in real life. I was pretty shocked yesterday with how dark it is in person. As one walks around the car, only the panels in direct sun are blue while the rest of the car appears almost black. It's really pretty and has tons of depth. Just not for me!
