Dealer Quote : Changing Trim

I am looking at a car with (4FU) Fineline Anthracite Wood Trim and would like to swap it out to the 4WL Carbon Trim. The dealer is listing 2-3k for this swap...How does a no charge option swap cost 2-3k to install? Is the job that labor intensive?

Thanks,

Thanks,
Dealer up charges a lot for the parts- thats why they're called stealerships. If you want to know what their process is, then ask them for a quote breakdown. Also... 2-3K is a big price difference, you might want to be more specific since thats just a ball park figure. You can always buy the trim kit for just over 1K and do it yourself.

Carbon trim is a no-cost option, but when you select it, you don't get the spare wood trim replacements included with the car. They're selling you the actual parts which cost almost $2K last I checked. Labor should not be more than one hour.

Thanks,
Completely wrong way to look at it. The Carbon Fiber roof is also a no cost option. But if someone who got the sunroof now wants the dealer to install a CF roof, you better believe it'll cost an arm and a testicle.

That being said, do what others have said and buy the parts online and do the install yourself. It isn't too difficult. Just be sure to buy a panel pry bar set to do it.

Why not just rock the Anthracite Wood Trim proudly being different than everyone who has CF trim, save the $$ for better things on your car.

You could also wrap your existing trim with CF

I get your point and seeing from that perspective, completely agree. It isn't something that is a deal breaker but I would have thought in ordering the red interior, you would want the carbon to keep a sporty look. The wood trim, imo, makes it more luxury than sport. Thanks for the replies.

I took a car off a dealer's lot (my SA gave me a deal on a car that was at another dealer)and I realized after I said yes that it had the wood. I started looking into getting the CF pieces to swap it out and the CF wasn't too hard to find at a reasonable price, but the "hockey stick" pieces which come as black chrome with CF and silver with the wood are like $300 each or something like that. Pretty ridiculous. As it turns out, I actually liked the wood when I saw it in person, so I just left it as is. I also like that fact that you don't see it too often on the F8x, just like my 6mt and sunroof.
