Encyclopedia Brown and the Case of the Extra //M
Sorry for the title, but my eight year old discovered Encyclopedia Brown this weekend and I thought it was apropos.
So, we are in the parking lot at the local supermarket and I see a shiny new X5 and I'm thinking "Cool. Hope they enjoy." As I walk by on the way into the store, I notice that the new owner decided to add an //M badge (albeit a bit askew). It gave me a chuckle, but I wondered how others feel about this. I have toyed with debadging my car, but how do people feel about non-M cars sporting an M badge? |

Personally I am ok with M badges around non M cars as long as you aren't trying to pose you have an actual M2, M3/M4, M5, M6, X5M/X6M.
Guys have added small m badges around the cars tastefully and in some countries actually comes this way from the factory. I draw the line when you add the full M badge on the trunk because now you are trying to pose as something you are not. When i see a nice car on the road or a fellow BMW driver I always tend to give them a nod of approval or a smile/thumbs up. When i see posers I don't give the same and I am actually laughing at them on the inside no matter how nice the car is. Alan

If people put the ///M badges on to fool the general public into thinking that they have an ///M car, then the people they are fooling have no idea what the difference is anyway. All ///M drivers know it's complete BS, so who exactly are they trying to deceive. Are they showing off at parties, discussing horseshit with there buddies? I just don't understand. My X5M is debadged or should I say the back is debadged, the sides are covered with black masking tape and the front has the little X5M badge above the night vision.

i personally debadge all of my cars .... i think it is tacky. i am not paying the manufacturer to advertise the model, and it looks much cleaner without all of that extraneous badging
that said, i find it humorous when people rebadge a car to be something it isnt. be happy with what you have and dont try to pretend ... we all lnow its not an f85 lol |

incorrect ... unfortunately there are 2 holes under the emblem that would require some body work to completely remove without evidence of a previously existing emblem
if i could have done it without body work it would be off as well |
