Upgrade idrive issues

Hi guys! I am having problems with the USB stick to upgrade iDrive. I put in the last VIN 7 digits, then downloaded the bin upgrade file, formatted my 32G USB stick to FAT32, dragged the bin file to the memory stick.
After I plugged it into the USB slot in the center armrest, it just kept saying "incompatible with the software."
Do you guys know how to work this out? Thanks!

Maybe a stupid question... but why not just let your dealer update it? Shouldn't cost you anything.

Are you sure that what you downloaded is a later version than what the car already has?

I've never found the website to have anything 'better' than what my car already had installed.

Yeah man my dealer told me they would keep everything up to date per service but they didn't do anything last time

I am still not sure about my current idrive version and could not find a way to look for it, but the Bluetooth audio connection bothers me, it just pauses a bit whenever a new song starts play.
I thought the new version should solve this issue

To clarify... Your '16 has iDrive 4.X. Are you trying to update to a newer version of 4.X? or update to iDrive 5.0? If the latter, I don't think that's possible.

Yeah not 5.0, just a newer 4.x
