Coding the rear DRL's brighter?

So I own a 435i, but for the most of it we (being M4 owners) share very much the same rear lights.

I was wondering if it's possible to code the tube LED lines to a brighter setting? The LED's in question are the horizontal two lines on the tail lights. Lately I've seen a few F32's with much brighter rear DRL bars which is what made me question it as I know it's possible with the front halo rings.

That's just tail lights, right? You want to make them brighter and make everyone think your brakes are on?

Not in any way at all.. you're reading the completely wrong motive here. That would be like saying everyone who has upped the DRL brightness to 100% want people to think they're driving around with their full beam on..

Those tube LED's run during the evening to act as an 'evening running light'. The brake light itself is a big block behind it - what I'm trying to say is there's a big difference between the evening light mode and the brake light.

I recently upgraded my brake light bulbs to LED's, however the LED tubes themselves seem quite dim now incomparison.

Yes you can code the rear lights to be on as DRL's. They aren't obnoxiously bright. The brightness is the same as if you turn on your headlights and your tail lights are activated.

On Canadian spec cars these are always on by default. They come on as soon as you power up the car, it was the same on the e92 gen as well. It add a nice touch, not obnoxious bright at all.

You can have Xenon headlamps with LED Corona rings.

They have LED light bars, but the full LED lights will appear with the LCI.

This is your problem... you're assuming the brightness of the aftermarket bulbs you bought is appropriate. It's not.

For those tails, you had to buy a "dual filament" or dual brightness bulb; dim for running lights, bright for brake lights. The problem is the bulbs you bought are too bright even with only the running light on. To do it properly, you should match the brightness of the stock bulb as close as possible, in both modes, not make everything else as bright as the new bulbs.

LOL..so many responses and not one person has answered your question. I am sure there is a way to make those led's brighter, just like there is a way to make the angel eyes brighter in the headlights. Would be cool to know and actually see what setting the taillight led brightness is set to, from factory. Wonder how much brighter you can make them (if possible). Hopefully someone knows how to do this and actually responds to your question. I will be on the lookout for the answer as well.

They should already be set at 100% brightness. If you adjust the voltage, you may overheat and burnout.

That's a common misconception. The taillights themselves have always been LED lit on the F8X since launch. The rear turn signal, brake lights and reverse lights are either incandescent or halogen lit pre-LCI.

It is only the rear turn signal and brake lights that become LED lit with LCI while the reverse lights remain halogen.

Are you sure about that?

I remember that being the case on my E92, where the taillights would also turn-on by default as soon as the ignition was on.

But on my M4, I can confirm it is only the front halos and eyebrow that turn-on while the taillights remain off with DRL.

I permanently leave my headlight switch in the A position and in that mode the tail DRL led rods are always on.

Interesting. Could be a Model Year thing. Just as you, I also always leave the headlight switch in the Auto position and I am positive the taillights are off with DRL (I just watched my wife drive off with the M4 10 minutes ago and the taillight were off).
