WTB: 1M - Alpine White - Low Mileage Preferred

Hello,

New to the forums and newer BMWs (have built a couple 2002s) and looking to purchase an Alpine White 1M for some autox and track day fun. Somewhat flexible on options (although would appreciate comments from experienced owners on which packages are useful or have resale value).

Budget range is $40-$50k depending on mileage and condition of car. I am okay working out of state and picking it up or paying for shipping.

100% stock preferred, but bolt on mods are okay if original OEM parts are included.

If your car is listed on this forum I've probably reached out to you already, but otherwise let me know what you have!

Thanks,

Uber

If you autocross manual seat cars sit lower and have about 1.3" more headroom/helmetroom

That is good to know for sure, thanks. Seems like there are very few cars without the premium package however.

I'm 5'11". Can anyone of similar stature comment on helmet head room/seat height with the electric seats?

I'm about the same height and even with manual seats it's tight with a helmet.

Yes, the strippers are harder to come across for sure but I think they are the purest and lightest of the breed. I sold my original AW stripper in 2013 and it was hard finding another one but I did. They are out there you just have to look. Ironically, one of the things I was looking at with the manual seats besides weight was that it would be my daily driver and had to drop kids off at school. The manual seats move quickly to let people in and out whereas the motorized ones are slower and you have to hold a button to slide them forward. If you want to autocross, I really recommend the manual seat version. Not only does it give you more headroom but you sit lower and the pedals feel better and the seat has a little more rake to keep you in place.

Finally, the no-nav cars stand further apart from the current generation of all i-drive so they don't look as dated as nav units. Not to mention that the dash is lower and cleaner in them for a little better visibility when autocrossing.

Also, read my thread on oils. BMW now offers an M specific 0-40 oil certified for 1M made by Shell. I use the Pennzoil Euro 5W-40 which is also made by Shell and is LL01 approved. Since I live in San Diego, I didn't want to go with 0W oil, I get sunburned in winter here.

yes, I am 5'10 and it cleared the headliner but by only about 1/2 inch. Finger width. But I wasn't in the lowest setting. I raised it up a bit for perfect pedal placement.

Thanks for the feedback all. I am currently in discussions with a few sellers (all of whom are members here it seems), so hopefully I will have one of my own soon!

Just a quick update that I will be taking delivery of nwautoxer 's old car after the New Year! I even found a set of BMW Performance seats locally to swap in for the electric ones.

Looking forward to joining the community and learning more about these great cars.
