6MT Owners: Has anyone tried the M2 or 3-series carbon fiber shift knob on your M3/M4
So I'm ordering an F80 with my local dealer and I have a January production slot secured so I'm looking at options/accessories for my upcoming M3. I'm getting all the packages (ZCP, ZEC, DAP, ZLC) the M Performance carbon fiber mirror caps, and most importantly, a 6MT!
The stock 6MT shifter is okay, but I wish it was a little shorter and I would love to have an all-metal option. I came across this carbon fiber 6MT shift knob in the M2 section of the forums that looks nice, but I can't find anything similar for the M3/M4: I was wondering if any M3 or M4 owners have swapped out their shift knob for this one, and if so, how did they like it compared to stock? I don't see any other options from the M Performance parts catalog and was wondering if this would also work for my upcoming F80? |

I just installed it yesterday, in fact. I really like it. It is shorter and thus feels a little more direct than the old knob. The shifts feel a little shorter, but I think that is just a factor of the shorter knob. I am slightly worried about the alcantara will wear, however. My father has a CLS55 AMG with an alcantara shift knob and is worn pretty badly, ESPECIALLY considering it is an automatic and you therefore touch it far less frequently....Time will tell, I suppose.
Here is the product I purchased - https://www.amazon.com/BMW-Performan.../dp/B0080IZR9S IND also sells them with super-nice tri-color stitching the match the steering wheel, but I just couldn't bring myself to pay that much just to change the stitching color... |

Thanks so much!!
Yeah, I really think between the shorter height and the material used for the knob itself will help it feel a little more direct/less rubbery than the stock knob does. Not that stock feels terrible of course. I wish they ditched the alcantara and made the whole thing from carbon fiber, but oh well. And yeah, I just looked at that IND version with the stitching and it looks amazing, but that price tag is Thanks again! |

I ordered the M Perf knob, but am currently planning to keep my factory boot. I'll know for sure in a few days if you are interested.
