Having my rod bearings replaced on Wed

Well, it's time to do the big service. I have a little over 60k on the M and have decided to go ahead and replace the rod bearings. I am doing the motor mounts at the same time. I will post some pics of the bearings after they come out.

I will be putting some slightly used bearings with 10k miles on them from a donor car and reusing my rod bolts. I picked up 10 qt of Quaker State 10w30 to thin the oil out and prevent these from going bad along with a Fram oil filter. Also picked up some off brand motor mounts on rock auto.

What's the reasoning to put back OEM bearing that's proven to fail at some point and not go for VAC or BE bearings? Also reusing rod bolts are a no no

Oh I really hope you're trolling

Used rod bearings...reusing bolts...wrong oil...shitty FRAM filter and junk aftermarket engine mounts.

Sounds like it's going to be a very solid repair!!!

Aside from what has already been mentioned... FRAM makes an oil filter for our cars?

Just kidding. I just figured nobody actually reads the SE forum. It's a little slower than other car forums I have been a part of. I am not actually using any of that junk. I have BE bearings, ARP bolts, Vibra-Technic mounts, LiquiMoly 10w60, OEM filters, gasket kit, etc.

Time for a new shop. Nothing you mentioned that you're doing seems advisable

Ah, that would explain the replies from everywhere, but the SE.

To answer this question, apparently they do make one for the S65. http://www.fram.com/Search-Parts/Par...M3&EN=V8%204.0

I am interested as well. No way I am taking them off even if they do add NVH. From what I've heard. It's minimal if any. Then again I heard the same thing about the JIC coilovers on my STi back in the day, and that was pretty far from "no added NVH"

If you change your mind about the Fram, I have a used OE oil filter I can send you. It's been sitting on the side of the house where I dump used motor oil. Just rinse the dirt off with a hose and you'll be good to go.

BTW, I totally got your humor/sarcasm. What made it even better is that others didn't. Thanks for the laugh.

I may take you up on that. I'll spray it with some K&N recharge oil and it will be good to go. I'll probably throw in a bottle of Prolong to make sure I'm ok.

While we have installed a ton of BE Bearings and ARP hardware since I'm a dealer for them but we generally use the Bimmerworld mounts. Great results so far out of them! Ive been wanting to try the Vibra mounts so please let us know how they are!

Well, they certainly look substantial. Hopefully they don't feel too substantial.

Do you have the motor mounts already? If not I'd highly recommend Bimmerworld upgraded motor mounts. Have had mine for 30,000 miles or so and no regrets at all. Just a bit more NVH, but not bad at all (my car is my daily).

I do have the mounts already. I'll report back with the harshness level. Though I really don't expect much difference.

I'm down in Charleston. Could you please let me know via PM what you paid up there for the BE RB's and rod bolt replacements including labor (and motor mounts and install since I would probably do that as well). Thanks!
