Can Apple CarPlay be added to an older Model

I really wanted Apple CarPlay.
I've gotten cheap rentals with it! (While I waited for my 2016 M3)
I was surprised the new M3 didn't have it. I thought it was a given...
Anyway, is there anyway to add Apple CarPlay to a 2016 model now that I guess BMW now has it on newer cars?

The simple answer is No if you are looking to have it native on the idrive.

Sure with maybe mods and some gutting you may be able to get it.

I had a POS rental with CarPlay this week. I'll take my 16 F80 without it any day. The integration wasn't so great.

I haven't looked into it as I have a 16". What's so great about CarPlay?

Yep, exactly...was very disappointed there was no Waze integration and just as bad was the google maps integration which also sucked.
