What is the quietest known exhaust for F80/F82
I searched, and searched again.
Everyone wants louder, bolder exhaust sound. I'd like my car to be quieter. Mine is an all-stock 2016 M3. Is any aftermarket cat-back known to be quieter than stock? Thanks!

Either/or depending on the potential to be more stealthy.

I don't think you will find anything quieter than stock. Just buy a valve controller and keep the valves closed, maybe that will be quiet enough for you. Maybe someone else has a better idea for you, but the m3 is a sports sedan that is not meant to be quiet. Good luck with your search!

The active rear section (non valved, 3 muffler) might be quieter than stock with valves open without the mid pipe, since open valves = basically straight piping in the rear.

If you dont mind a stock rear go with our mid pipe and our signature tips. Use the valves to choose if you want it dead quiet or a step up from stock. Last edited by SflBimmer8484; 11-03-2016 at 05:05 PM.. |

QUIETER!?!?! Blasphemy!
But if you must, +1 on closing the valves. Honestly, if you're SURE you want them close and quiet then you could skip the valve controller and do a backwards version of the valve mod to keep them closed. Do you drive it in Sport+? Forcing the valves closed really won't help it be any quieter than it already is in Comfort or Sport since theoretically they stay closed in those modes already.

Put two potatoes in the inner exhaust tips.

Akra Slip-On is the most quiet if you want something close to stock but removes some of the inconsistencies of the Stock Exhaust.

Your best bet will be the Akrapovic EVO system or Active Autowerke axle back.
Neither will be truly "stealthy" as you request, but they both offer sounds on the same level as stock or slightly quieter |

Use valve controller and turn off active sound. I have active sound disabled and even with my full Remus catback exhaust w/ resonators and secondary cats deleted, when my valves are closed the car sounds as quiet as a Toyota Corolla. Can't see how anybody would want it quieter than that. I imagine with stock exhaust, valves closed and active sound off, it would be as quiet as an electric car.

Many good suggestions, thanks!
I'll probably just aim for keeping my valves shut. LOL, Negative on a 320i. I DO use the performance of my car as a normal matter of course. After my 4/4/16 BMW WELT delivery, my 5th stop was The Nürburgring (after a reasonable effort to break it in). I can not argue with the F80 performance compared to my E90 M3, but the soundtrack is inferior. I see the value of "loud pipes save lives" logic, but to me the exhaust note of the F8X is a bit juvenile. All this "farty-fart fart and blattle" business is overdone in my opinion. To me, it would be perfect if I could reduce it to the "normal" turbo exhuast note where you just hear rushing wind on demand.

I agree force the valves closed at all times with a controller and disable active sound.. will be your quietest solution.

As someone else mentioned it may actually be the active sound that's bothering you more so than the exhaust. You'd be surprised how much of that awful cabin noise is actually the active sound and not the actual exhaust.
You may be happiest deleting the active sound and then see how you feel before you go changing exhausts.

It is most likely the active sound that's bothering you. The stock exhaust (or even some aftermarket) is pretty quiet, and most of what you hear in the cabin is from the awful active sound. I coded off active sound on my F80 and the cabin quiets down significantly. Now I only hear the exhaust note from the BACK when I get on the gas pedal. Once ASD is disabled, F80 almost becomes a 328i in terms of cabin noise.
