in the hills of San Francisco - LOVE IT
haha. learned a little unknown feature yesterday..
while driving in the hills of SF with my 6MT for the first time (and 3 years since i drove manual) I experienced automatic hill assist - first time it happened I thought "hmm that was wierd - the car didnt really roll back too much while i engaged the clutch" then i tested it - let go of the brake and the car stands still.. both incline and decline... i love my car!! is that on all bimmers these days? (i guess it may have mentioned that feature in the manual.. but hey.. who reads the manual all the way through when you can be driving!!) |

Yea its a nice little feature, hill assist. I believe it holds the car for 2 seconds before it starts to roll.
And yes i believe its on all MT bimmers.

I test drove a 335 (and M3) and both had that feature. The sales man told me that it was on all the MT BMW cars. Of course, the sales man told me lots of other stuff that wasn't true so it's hard to figure out what he knew and what he was making up...

Actually they just recieved the car on Tuesday - the GMs friend spec'd it out and then changed his mind. So it was unaccounted for. I didnt want Cold Weather package or Satellite radio but i figured it wasn't a huge diff in the lease price. Plus no wait. Know of any good drives here in the city? Figure Hwy 1 towards marin should be good in the mornings.. |

I can see how it would be a killer feature in SF, but I've actually found that it can be a pain in the a$$ as well. If I'm trying to back down an inclined driveway for example, I'll keep hitting the brake to check my mirrors, and every time I do that, I have to wait another 2 seconds when I take my foot off the brake before the car will start rolling.

Yeah its awesome. When I test drove one the other day, I almost killed it because it didn't move and I was anticipating it to roll!

Nice options....ya went I with SG/Blk extd leather, CB Leather trim, 19s, MT, Prem, Tech, Enhanced Sound, Heated Seats(instead of CW), Rear PDC, Rear Sunshade, HD Radio, and the little USB port. Don't waste your time in SF, head to Marin and go to Stinson/Mt.Tam on Hwy 1 out to Bolinas. I grew up there, and those roads are like your private race course. You can drive from SF all the way to Novato on the backroads; basically +40 miles of backroads. In SF though, you can start by the Presidio and head out to Sea Cliff, continue to Pac Coast Highway; but it's not that twisty. Enjoy bud! See you out there soon enough!!
