I do believe Jerez has a blue/purple hue depending on the lighting.
Most importantly though, they both have ORANGE PEEL! |

If you want a deep dark inky black, then Jet Black is the way to go.
If you like black, but want something a little different or unqiue, then Jerez black is a great option. In the light, it isn't as dark and inky as Jet Black, it has a deep blue or purple hue to it. Any black requires a good bit of maintenance, but the Jet Black would likely require more careful attention than Jerez Black. The Jet Black looks awesome no doubt about it, however I have had other jet black like cars and I wanted something a bit more unique and interesting, so I ordered the Jerez Black. Either way... I don't think you can go wrong. Try and see them in person first if you can. Last edited by Zed; 04-05-2008 at 11:38 AM.. Reason: typo |

I liked jerez black was thinking of getting it (I have yet to see it in person) but i could never find out what color it really was and i dident want to have my car changing colors all the time on me depending on the day haha as stupid as that sounds it would annoy me! Jet black gets dirty quick but i dont mind spending time cleaning my car!
There arent enouph jet black pictures out there to find out what it looks like on the M3 and you have to see jerez black in person to actualy know if you like it or not. Its all up to you In the end! Its a gamble but you cant go wrong with either. good luck!

I prefer my SpaceGrey but if I have to pick one it would be Jet Black. I don't know why a lot of people in this forum like Jerez. Purple is not a nice color for cars.

i thought long and hard on this one.. saw both in person - shade/sunlight/inside the showroom.
Jerez - in the showroom it looked black - with the brightspots showing a hint of blue. Nice. In the shade - i thought it was jet black.. thought it was beautiful - In the bright sun - blue. That's it, very deep metallic blue. Probably a little easier to take care of. The metallic will probably mask some paint imperfections. Jet black - Black. Period. Very unforgiving. But gorgeous. I went with Jet black - i had a sterling grey e46 m3 and missed having a black car (it had been 6 years). The amount of blue of Jerez in the bright sun made me go for Jet - just not what i wanted. Both are still great colors - you'll be happy with either. But if you choose Jet black then be aware of what you're getting into! |

I think they both are very hard to envision on a internet picture. Need to see in real more so than other colors. If you want JB you know it.
Jerez black is more of a fancy color for people who like their car color to be ambiguous. Black is for clear thinkers and narcistic people. Jerez is for people who like new trends and think in the present. EDIT: JRZ BLK rocks minus the funeral/gothic/raven look of the yet attractive JB. Last edited by oneginee; 04-15-2008 at 01:07 AM.. |

got to see JzB next to JB on the showroom floor - side by side the jet looks REALLY deep and dark. I ordered Jet. I think it fits the car in a stealth, bat mobile sort of way.

EXACTLY what he said! I used to and still do a bit of serious detailing (polish/waxing on high end cars) so I know quite a bit about this - and as he posted above in that post - once your jet black is swirled up - you can make it shiny again, yes. But you wont get rid of the swirls. Different steps are taken to paint the car in the factory and the clear coat is applied differently on metallic and non-metallic cars. I actually posted a topic on this comparing jet black with sapphire black metallic...heres the link. JET BLACK vs. SAPPHIRE BLACK METALLIC |

I had cosmos black on my e36. I had jet black on my 2001 M3 and owned it for 7 years - I never had problems with swirls. I spent the same time on both cars.
I always detail my own cars so the car get the same attention whether its my white GTI or my Jet black M3. hand wax, or griot orbital, etc. and a final wipe down with quick detail easily takes care of the swirls.

Jerez black is a great color, however if you want pure black go for Jet Black.
Jerez black has a midnight blue hue and color in sunlight and under intense light, however at night it looks completely black.

I think CB has much more metallic - saw an M5 in CB next to the M3 sedan in JzB.
MAIN difference is what he asked and that has to be dark, dark blue vs deep black. both nice colors , you have to see them to decide.

Jerez Black Sample
Here is a sample photo of my new Jerez Black M3. You can see the color of the blue metalic in the pillar. Previous comments about it looking black at night are correct.
