It sounds like an unhappy pump. When the car is unlocked, the fuel system pressurizes and if you have DCT it also primes itself. Whatever it is, it sounds horrible.

I have a 16' M3 zcp manual and mine did this too. They tried to tell me it was the fuel pump priming but it turned out to be the valvetronic which requires removal of valve covers to replace.
They said they adjusted the connector and could not get it to make the noise again. But when I got it home the next morning, I heard the sound again. And of course, after leaving with the Bmw service overnight, it didn't make the noise. Car has 1100 miles. Last edited by dsouth; 10-28-2016 at 01:06 PM.. |

never heard that noise. it ain't right. get that looked at.
E83's with bad transfer cases make a noise like that, but clearly this car doesn't have AWD. I'm sure your service dept will get it sorted. |

I think it's the valvetronic motor. But of course they couldn't duplicate it when it was in for service. SMH
