How to read Shadow Fault Codes?

Is there a way to read the shadow fault codes on our vehicles?

My last M3 (e92) when I took it to the dealer they claimed abuse and voided one of my warranty claims. They showed me a paper showing RPM/time/Mileage/Gear/Tire Speed/VIN/temperature engine.... I want to ensure that I have no saved data on my new vehicle before I go to the dealer for scheduled maintenace.
