The perfect break-in-period-driving

Hi Guys,

we have some topics about the the break-in-period allready, but there is any topic according to the theory, yet.

What dou you know about the perfect way to break in his new car?

As i were told, its the best to change the gear and workload everytime and keep under the limits.

Would it be bad to e.g. drive the first 1200miles with allways 100mph and the same gear?

Yes.

To quote yourself, "As i were told, its the best to change the gear and workload everytime and keep under the limits."

People dwell far too much on keeping the engine below a certain amount of revs, when in fact this isn't that important. What is MUCH more important is varied revs, varied types of driving, all at a warm oil temperature.

Think about it. If you do lots of long journeys at a constant speed in the same gear, do you think all the components such as the clutch and brakes are getting a thorough working over?

The perfect break-in:

1. Take the performance center delivery in South Carolina.
2. Drive back home via one of the scenic routes, e.g. Tail of the Dragon, Blue Ridge Parkway, etc.
3. Don't forget to enjoy the drive.
4. Follow break-in instructions in manual (< 5500 rpm, < 105 mph).
5. Vary speed, gears, throttle position.
6. If there is an area free of traffic with good visibility then bed in the brakes.
7. Don't forget to enjoy the drive.
8. By the time you get back home you should have a few hundred miles (depending on where home is).
9. Don't forget to enjoy the drive.

I already have 4,300 Kms. so I don't have to worry about it anymore. I like to have full redline at my disposition.
