Terrible Experience today

So I took my z4 to BMW to get worked on to fix moisture getting in the front headlight. I sent it in for the same problem bout a month ago but the problem came back. It was also time for the annual inspection under warrenty so i got that done as well.

Well i get a call back saying that my left rim is cracked and the run flat tire has a bubble in it. WTF! must have been a pothole. this year has been pretty bad for potholes
also the right wheel is bent but they said that it is fixable.... replacement of the wheel runs about $500. i wasn't about to order a new run flat tire from bmw cause i knew they would jack the price up. So i ordered the wheel. Rear brakes and rotors were worn out so they are replacing those under warrenty, still pretty upset about the wheel though.

anyways i do some online hunting on wheels and tires. I find the rim that i need for bout $300 cheaper then what they are wanting to charge me. I call bmw back to cancel the order but the service people have already gone home, and that i will have to call tomorrow. with the order going through i will porbably have to pay a restocking fee. Im going to stick with the wheel i found online.

I also determined that im going to get rid of the run flats. They are just plain awful. im going to go with the Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season tires as i drive this car in the winter and i hate getting stuck coming out of the gas station on a 0.0001 % incline... aint that some shit.

Iv heard good things about these tires, so im actually looking forward to getting them. The ride is hell on these run flats, ill be glad to sell em on ebay.

Oh yeah they also ordered a replacement headlight no fee, as it is covered under warrenty, but they should have done this the first time

How much snow do you get in Kentucky and how cold does it get? My experience with all-season and winter tires shows me that winter tires are much better than all-season.

Cheers.

In Lexington, they mostly get a dusting now and then - any real accumulation will shut the city down. I don't think they've even got snow removal equipment there (I grew up in Lexington, went to BSSH and UK).

GoodYear Eagle F1 All Season = Absolute GARBAGE.
Insane hydroplaning in the rain.

If you're going to get it, get the summer version of the F1.

But if you must go with an all season, I recommend the Continental ExtremeContact.

I had a similar experience a couple weeks ago when i took my car in for scheduled service and asked them to do a tire rotation....

They came back with all 4 of my wheels being bent and some "odd wear" on the rear tires. Recommended that i replace the rear tires very soon and it might be a good idea to replace/try to fix all of the wheels.

I have verified that there is a lot of uneven wear on the rear tires (on the inside), but i haven't even attempted to look at the wheels. But knowing how much factory wheels cost and since there was no way in hell i was replacing run-flats I ordered some new wheels and tires from tirerack. They show up tomorrow. They will look better, perform better and cost me probably $1800 less than if i had replace everything with factory equipment. Granted I'm a year earlier than what I was expecting, but it made it easier for me to justify the money to my wife.

*shrug* maybe BMW service departments got a call from the mother ship saying that they've got massive overstock of their $650 factory wheels. So this month they are telling everyone that theirs are bent. haha.

If you can afford it I would get summer tires and winter tires and just get them switched twice a year, from my experience all season tires lack in the summer and the winter and are only optimal in the in-between times.

It seems Lexington has mainly problems with ice. we get a couple ice storms that come through here a year not huge accumulation of snow. temps in the winter time highs are usually around 28-40 with lows being in the teens sometimes at night

I dont really have any wheel shaking.

To pbdm4k

did you actually have the F1 all season tires, and why didn't you like them. I have heard great things about them from people that have similar sports cars, and bmws. and olmost all reviews were positive.

my runflats are 18's. i plan on selling the good 3 on ebay if anyone is interested, from what i can see tire tread is still good. ill get out the tools and checkem later.

i need an all season tire as i dont have the money to put down for 8 tires.

epbrown. I also went to BSHS and currently go to BCTC(LCC) but plan on transferring to UofL. infact i actually live on eastin rd. lol
when did u go to school down here?
You know they built a new bryan station?

Tested the F1 All Season on my friend's Mazda 3 wagon.

They were horrible in the turns when it rained. Those tires do nothing to evacuate water.

My friend was so pissed with them, he threw them out with 70% tread left.

That sucks, its kind of odd though as alot of people said these tires were a beast when it came to wet roads. the only complaint that some people had was the road noise was a bit loud. cant be worse then the run flats.
The good years have a 30day trial period so if you dont like em you can send them back. so i am going to try them out. ill post about them when i get em.

I heard about the new school, as my nephews and nieces still go there. I'm the only person in my entire family (about 70 people) to leave Lexington, everyone else thinks it's heaven. I graduated from Bryan Station in the early 80s and left KY for Chicago in the mid-80s; I still visit fairly often (I'm down there next month, in fact).

Wow... I'm a genius and I didn't even know it.

But as far as all season tires are concerned, there are better tires out there than GoodYear.
Being a regular track day goer, GoodYear tires are hardly associated with being a performance tire. At least Continental tires are made in Germany. Unlike the rest of the car!

Good choice.

Yokohama Advans are amazing tires and are highly regarded in Japan.
