New Shock absorbers

My car has around 45k on it and its a NYC / suburbs car and the shocks have been pounded and need a refresh i feel like.

Whats a reasonable replacement? I don't have EDC and my car is not lowered.

All I want to do is take the old struts off and replace them with something that rides a little better than the stock oem...

Any suggestions? Also looking to stay under 2k, is it possible?

thx in advanced

Bilstein B8 is good stock performance replacement strut and shock. I am using them. Not sure they ride softer than new stock, but they may ride better than worn stock.

What about the springs? Will a new stock spring work with the B8s?
