Watches - it had to happen
I am sure as most of us either drive an m3 or m4 there will be a few out there who also indulge in quality time pieces.
I treated myself to a Daytona two years ago for my 40th, always wanted one, got one and loved it. however two years later I am now looking at getting into a IWC big pilot. I cant justify both so would look to do a swap of some sort. however really not sure, any views comments, pics of your watch stories .. MB |

I did the same at 40, having always wanted a Rolex at some point. I went for the Date-just in white gold and white face, as I didn't want it overly flashy, but of course people spot it regardless! It's now been nearly 4 years, so overdue a service I think which I'll have done this month probably.
Funnily enough, I was also thinking that I would like something else and have been looking at the Big Pilot too. Very nice watch and they hold their money well on the used market. If I were you I wouldn't part with the Daytona. That watch will always be worth thousands, as dealers who trade in used pieces are crying out for them. If you don't have the cash spare for the IWC, just get it on interest free. There's so many retailers offering this now and even if you do have the cash in your pocket, if it's interest free, I'd still take it that way! Would be rude not to... |

Sold my white-face daytona earlier this year (got about 98% of what I paid for it back) as well as a couple IWC's. Don't know what's wrong with me. To me, the daytona is an icon and I want one, but as a functioning chrono it's sort of useless. Too small at 40mm and screw-down pushers make using it a PITA. So it's gone. And so I'm on the hunt for a 44mm "iconic" chrono now.... don't know what it will be.
Love IWC's but lately the value of buying one new has me wondering...too many "like new" used ones out there, so I'm staying away until the brand sorts itself out. But a Big Pilot is awesome if you can wear it regularly and not make it a safe queen. Even better, one of the boutique special edition Big Pilots would be nice! |

Hold on to that Daytona, new ceramic bezel Daytona's are coming out and the older versions are going to appreciate rapidly!

Yeah similar thread elsewhere.
The wife wanted a Rolex a few years ago so I obliged for her birthday and got talked into a rose gold Daytona for my myself at £24k on top of the £32k I paid for hers. If I have worn the thing 6 times since I bought it in 2013 I think it would be an exaggeration, at least she does wear hers quite regularly |

Auction on the new daytona is asking for £16k already for the basic SS one. I bought a GMT2 last year and once i saw the new daytona i just fall in love. Short term wants are a M4 and a steel daytona and i will be a very happy man!

Love watches... I was 30 last year and no one seemed willing to buy me a Rolex
So I bought myself a Submariner no date. Then the following month bought a GMT2 batman... I've got my eye on the new ceramic Daytona and the James Cameron Deepsea. Plan to give one to each of my 3 boys when they turn 21, and i'll keep the Daytona for myself. https://www.instagram.com/p/6F7-cTpr_q/?taken-by=kkarue |

I can tell you from experience, as soon as you have the M4 and the SS Daytona, you will be on the look out for something else. we are all just a bunch of consumerists
