2015 35d 18K service - comments and observations

At 18K my 35d was ready for its second service. To date the only issue with this vehicle was a clogged exhaust gas cooler at 9K miles. After reading about the battery replacements at the second oil change for N57 engines I expected a new battery. NOPE - I have an N57T engine which is not covered under the service bulletin. So the normal service was performed, oil and filter change, cabin micro filter, new wiper blades, and top off DEF and other fluids. My OEM 19" Pirelli all season tires have 6/32 of tread left - so no need for tires yet.

A software update was performed that is targeted at reducing clogging of the exhaust gas cooler. I hope that helps as replacing the cooler out of warranty is expensive.

Did they do the recall on the firmware? From my dealer's email: "Your vehicle also has an open recall: 10013550200 - F15 N57 US Program control units (EGR application)".

They told me over the phone that it is a software update. I can't find any info on it whatsoever, other than a post on bimmerfest, where people have said they have experience a 1-2 mpg drop after the update.

Yes Matt - The software update was the recall and it is designed to reduce clogging of the EGR cooler. As stated, I had one replaced at 9k. I'll keep a close watch on my MPG and report back in about a month. I have been consistent at 27.5 in my daily driving.
