Decisions, Decisions
So I have a 2010 M3 sedan with 22k miles. I love the high revving engine and engine roar and hydraulic steering. I don't like the aging tech and gas inefficiency. I just came across a new 2016 Tanzinite blue M3 with ZCP. I have strange feeling I will regret trading in the F80 M3 and it will someday be a classic! I'm posting this here and in the E90 section to get opinions.

I think it depends on what your prioritize more. Do you enjoy interior creature comforts and then performance? If so then the F8X might be fore you. Both gens have the right kind of performance, but in the end the newer models have the better tech.
AND I'm sure the reason why a ton of us are keeping our E9Xs is because we love the platform, engine, and the interior tech is good enough for us! |

There will always be a reason for you to justify the move. If you truly want it, then go for it. You just need to decide what is more important?
I am fortunate that my garage has both and I see the advantages of both. Yes, the F80 is much improved in so many ways, but it comes down to personal preference. I could easily move to the new platform, but I truly love the E90. I am on my third at the moment. I can appreciate the LCI and ZCP, but it really comes down to the driving experience for me. I had even resorted to going back to NA from SC. It's not really about the fastest car for me at the moment. It is what brings me the most pleasure and I am certainly intoxicated with the S65. It is one of the best engines I have ever had the pleasure of driving. My previous E39 M5 comes a close second.

If you do it, you will regret it...the S65 NA engine is a jewel while the new Turbo bmw engines are not special at all...newer and faster is not always better...

I'm leaning towards waiting for next gen M3 in 2019 or 2020, by then the E90 M3 will be a modern classic. With my driving habits I'll have under 50k miles

And the new M3's still have platform issues with their engine. And it's too early to say that these engines don't have rod bearing issues or something else.
I've been on the fence with selling or keeping my E90 and moving to an M4 |

Sounds like you already regret hanging onto the E90. Gotta pick your priorities but personally I never understand this "tech" jealousy that people get, and I'm in my mid 30s. Do you want the damn thing to parallel park for you? Or maybe you like fancy digital fake engine noises?

Paging 8600RPM - I believe he went darkside but eventually returned.
OP, I 100% know what you mean. After being spoiled by 2015/16 loaners (nice ones too, 535's, X5's, etc) I always hate saying good bye to them. The driving experience of the M3 is unmatched, but it takes me a few days to get used to the dated interior once again. Judging from the amount of miles you have on your car, I'm going to assume it's not your daily. Instead of trading in the e90 for a f80, I would suggest leasing a new BMW to scratch your new tech itch. IMO the price to pay to get into a f80 is not worth getting rid of the e90. The dealer will lowball you on your trade in and the new M's are not cheap to lease/buy. And at the end, they will eventually lose value and be replaced by the new M. There is no right or wrong answer here. Just go with what you feel is best for you. Both are amazing cars.

Do keep this to yourself or I'll be flooded with guys wanting the same deal. I'm also looking for other obsolete, aging, inefficient cars like 64-67 Mustangs, 61-66 T-Birds, 63-67 Vette's, old Ferrari 250 and 275's, GTO's, Dodge Challengers and Chargers...you know, all the old inefficient aging technologies that soon will be worthless... |

I sold my 335 fully intent on getting a new F80 (because turbo is life blah blah) well I left the dealer having the salesman searching for my tanzurite over beige 6MT F80. The next day a customer of mine walks in and says he might be selling his E90, well I took it for a test drive home that night, the next day I called the salesman and canceled the search... Turbos are fun, yeah the F80's make gobs of power (my little ol 335 had 700whp) but there is just something about that damn v8 screaming at 8300 RPMS that gets ya. the interior is nicer, more comfortable, feels more luxurious, more.... "M" if you will. I just feel like the E90 M distinguished itself from the pack way better then the current F80 to its F30 Msport counterpart. I don't know, after driving a few F80's I just didn't feel special. The M makes you feel special every time you open your garage door and get in it.
The F80 is a splendid car, but when you compare to the E90, its not an apples to apples comparo... it's just not. |

However, keep them for 3+ months, and if you bought the M for the right reasons, you quickly get bored of the newer non-M cars. It's always nice to cruise in a new X5 for a week, but if you spend an extended amount of time away from the M, once you get back in, everything feels right. |
