How disable iPod in favor of iPhone to stream Apple Music?

A few days ago during a trip of a few 100 miles every day, I placed my iPad Pro in the passenger seat so I could test an iOS V1 app that works wonders with my V1 when using the app on my iPhone. The iPad has a SIMS card but I disabled cellular function and did not run a hotspot from my iPhone.

Up until that change, I was always able to stream Apple Music from my iPhone. Now I must either turn off the iPad - which the X5 sees as an iPod - or disable BT in the iPad to stream the music from my iPhone. I have the same Apple Music on my iPad but I have never been able to stream Apple Music from the iPad.

Is there not some way that while driving I can simply disable the iPod/iPad and restore the priority to my iPhone when testing that V1 app or is there a better way to get at this sort of thing? BTW, most of my open road driving and commute the iPad is closed in a bag on the second row so this is a new problem to me.

What i think happens is that car sees advice which is added latest as a primary device... However do not hold it as definite answer. Try to remove iPhone and re-pair it again with the car. Oh, and BTW, do you have an enchased bluetooth in your car?

I do not have EBT and when the iPad/iPod shows as active, my iPhone shows as connected - born on the phone and in the X5 settings = but it will still not let me activate it as the primary device.

Perhaps a re-pairing would make sense but not the easiest thing to do while driving on unknown interstates or yesterday doing the I-40 curves of the Smokeys (west of Asheville, NC).

Without EBT you cannot have more then one device paired i think.

Then what is the easiest way to disable the iPad/iPod when I want to stream music and use BT for calls on my iPhone?

As I say, turning off the iPad or turning off its BT allows me to return to the iPhone which had worked seamlessly in the past.
