abs fault code. Need help understanding how it works

Car is a 08 135i. Got trifecta of lights about a month ago. Code was 5dc2. Right rear exciter ring. I replaced wheel speed sensor. Error went away for a day then came back. Diagnosed with inpa and I can see the wheel speed dropping off a bit repeatedly. Like a pattern of it but reads right most of the time. I doubt it's my sensor since old and new gave same code. How does the "exciter" ring work and how can I troubleshoot to make sure I replace the right part.

Was looking at diagrams on real oem and couldn't figure it out.

Sometimes the "ring" can float or move from the hub(axis run out). Also a bad wheel bearing can also cause some ABS faults. Have you have any damage to the rear axle? Also... did you buy the sensor from BMW or Bosch ?

Just wondering if there's a ring on my car or if it's in the wheel bearing. I haven't hit anything. No damage to rear axle. Sensor is ate from the looks of it, it looks like BMW was originally molded into the plastic plug in the same spot as the one that came off my car but was filed off.

If you know where I can find a diagram of how the ring works that would be great. I haven't been able to find it on anything at real oem

You probably will need to look at the BMW TIS portal. You can rent time out there to look info up.

Here is a free site, though I have not used/tested it.

Thanks. As far as I can tell the sensor reads the bearing. Just don't want to replace it for no reason
