At 2 - 2.5 ps per week, you won't find it with a leak test in water or soapy water - too slow.
The tire needs to be re-mounted and the wheel rim (where the bead meets the rim) needs to be cleaned spotless. If that doesn't do it, then the tire shop should have a bead sealant they can use. I had to have this done on my Merc.

Could also be the TPMS valve stems. I've had those deteriorate over time and cause slow leaks. Easy thing to check is whether the retention nut is tight enough.
Otherwise, just have the shop install new washers and/or reseat/tighten each one when you remount the tire.

Agreed on both of the above. A leak that slow could be smaller than a pin-hole. Keep us posted on updates.

Could also be fractures in the rim. My friend's car leaks 2-3 psi a week, found a small crack on the inside part of the rim.

If under warranty and original tires/wheels, yes. And don't back down if you get a reply, "it's within specifications". Tell them it's a safety concern and watch them take care of it.

Have you checked the valve to see if it seated properly or leaking? The old fashioned way is some spit on your finger, wipe it across the valve (cap removed) and leave a continuous layer across the top of the valve. A slow leak will push a bubble out and break the film. Replace the valve insert if it is an issue although sometimes just giving it a sharp push in and letting it snap out will help it seat.
Every time I check pressures or add air I test the valve is seated properly before replacing the valve cap, just in case. |
