You can't really blame the average Joe for putting an ///M badge on a non-M car when BMW is starting to do the same thing.

BMW ///M just isn't what it used to be.

There is no hidden meaning.
Maybe you're a few years late to the M lineage discussions.

Perhaps... M models are definitely not as special these days; with each platform having it's own "M" model.

it probably makes them feel like their car is cooler than it is. to the average consumer ///M is just a badge. I can't tell you the amount of people who thought my car was a regular 3 series or didn't even know what an ///M car is. clueless. this guy probably just liked the way the emblem looked and thought it made him have an M car

Most just know M means money so that's why. I knew a guy who has an M badge on his 3 series because girls just looked at it and thought it was expensive. Then I had a customer who put one on a entry level 5 series along with the stripes on the grill. He did it because he bought some bmw lip or other tiny part and that's how he justified an m badge.

I get that not everyone can afford these cars but a bmw series car is still a nice car.. If you like cars to the point of having to emulate another one , why not just do some reading and put in the time to mod it and make it more unique to your taste. Most people won't look down on a modded non M bmw . There are plenty of great 335i"s out there withought M badges holding they're own.

It becomes funny when he really believes it's legit due to the tiny other part. I've never confronted people like this, but i bet their sense of self and reality is entangled they probably turn aggressive if you confront them.

I read that one too many times "bmw series car is a nice car". Before i owned a bmw, i guessed this must be true. Now that I own an M3, I respectfully disagree. Engine is fabulous in the M3 and chassis is superb but it stops there. I do not see any superiority in quality compared to Japanese brand high end models that cost 20k less. Maybe it's because I was spoiled by never owning an american car and always drove japanese and european cars. Heck i could make a long list of how poorly designed the M3 interior is and i must say, on some specific aspects it comes short of the ergonomy and refinement of even some economic honda or nissan, I am serious. I find the M3 lacking in quality compared to previous generation Japanese top of their line sports car i have owned. It makes me cringe everytime someone assumes bmw series are superior, they're not. I complain with an m3, i would probably trash a regular series, fortunately i never owned one and never will from what i've seen from the M3.
