I just can't stand...
Red [leather] interior. When I see a car with red interior it is on the edge to trigger a disgust and anger in me, since I think that the owner's selection of interior has "destroyed" the beautiful vehicle. I consider my "hatred" to red interior illogical and I would like to understand why.
I need to point out that I completely respect people that has selected red interior; I'm not here to pick a fight but I wish to understand why it is such a turn off for me. Is it an age thing? I have talked to some petrol heads in my own age (born in 90's/late 80's) and they completely agree with me. Could it a matter of generations? Did we not grow up with an iconic car with red interior as the other generations? Is it a geographical thing? In Europe, many countries have their "own taste". Germans, for example, seem to have a unconditioned love for wood trim inside the cars (sorry for "alles über einen Kamm scheren"). However, I do not believe so since I have seen many vehicles in Sweden with red interior (could be imports though). It is often more exclusive cars that have been specified with red interior - could it be a "show-off-thing"? Does it make the car look more exclusive? Why do you like red interior? What am I missing? Yet again, I completely respect you all. It is not a question about that. Thanks! |

Hahahahha, we are on opposite ends. I actually LOVE red interior. I ordered my first new M3 with it. Why? I feel the interior has more pop, more contrast, more liveliness. In general red is psychologically a more passionate, powerful, and energetic color. An interior in that color does make me feel all of that now that I think about it.
In general I am a fan of contrasted interior. Black with other colors. I think it is partly a show-off thing. But I just like the way it looks. It makes me more "interested" in the details. I've studied industrial design and I'm a big fan of texture contrast and color contrast. However, I will say some things are amazing by virtue of simplicity. So for example, I also do enjoy a clean leather Black interior with Piano Black or Carbon Fiber trim. Most older owners I know prefer just straight black or even just tan. Talking about Tan, I HATE ALL TAN interiors hahahha. In the US its typical that Red interior equipped cars go for a premium. You will find so many non-M cars with Coral Red. I think at least Fox Red is a bit more elegant. Less LOOK AT ME, but still YEAH I'M RIGHT HERE. I'll be honest and tell you whenever I am looking for a new car (used too) I am looking for a bold interior, red is definitely on my mind but others too. I looked everywhere for a Panamera Turbo with red interior with no luck, I settled on Platinum with Black... I couldn't go with just all Black on this one. I hope that gives you a little insight.

It definitely depends on the specific red to me and it has to add something unique but tasteful to the interior. Fox red, coral red Dakota with black stitching are both great to me. Sakhir orange, Audi red, or Corvette red interior... they don't work for me for some reason.

I feel the same way about tan interiors, especially in a Porsche. Red isn't bad with the right exterior color, but it definitely doesn't look good with anything the way black does.

I was skeptical when I got my e92 M3 in AW w/ Fox Red Extended interior. Never saw the color in person and pictures make it way too bright than what it is. When I went to see the car the color was more of a brownish color and it was fine. Pictures just doesn't do it justice for Fox Red interior. I was going to go with AW and black interior but in my life time, its just so common. Wanted something else.

Originally I would only consider black. I found a great deal on a fox red/jerez combo and after just a few days I like it A LOT more than the black. Like others have said fox's true color isn't portrayed in pictures very well. Imo it's one of the best interior colors I've ever seen.

Not a fan of red interiors at all, that being said, I ordered mine to have the bamboo beige interior, which is probably an even more hated color. To me the color always reminded me of Ferraris and Porsches, which is probably why I like it.

Specifically had to order mine and wait a few months to get the extended red interior. No regrets, black is boring, beige is meh. I considered individual colors, but decided against it. I'm younger so maybe that's it. Honestly it's gotten to the point where I won't buy a car with a black interior, it's just seems uninspiring.

Thanks for all the replies. So it might not be a generation thing then. I was kind of hoping for that, since that was the only thing I could think of.
Normally when it comes to specification of vehicles, I get used to colors and shapes and then start to like them. But in red interior, I simply cannot. |

You want us to help you understand why you hate red interiors? Probably the same reason I think the Bugatti Veyron is the most overpriced, overrated ugly POS excuse for a VW Beetle ever produced. It's just a matter of opinion. There is no right or wrong
And FWIW, I actually like red leather interiors.

I'm so bored with my black interior. My e46 m3 had the cinnamon leather and it really made the interior special. I couldn't find one with fox red and red exterior so I had to settle for black. it's just too plain and boring.

Same here. Not sure what being born in any certain decade or under any certain flag has to do with it, but I ordered mine in two-tone black and red because I felt like one color would be too boring. I have not regretted it, and have gotten many compliments on it.

Therefore, I wanted to find a pattern of red interior. Maybe, people grew fond of it when they got older? Or saw a Bugatti EB110 with red interior in their childhood? But I get your point. It might not have been the best of forum threads |
