First engine mod E90 M3

1500$ in hand, as a first engine mod- would you go with test pipes and Megan racing exhaust or would you go with test pipes-stock exhaust and tune? Test pipes obviously give you best bargain for performance but would you take the sound of the Megan exhaust over the oem exhaust and is the sound worth it rather then doing the tune?

For me it is actual performance first and performance sound later.

⬆️+1 in addition to a little extra power the tune (with 240E update and servotronic mod) made the car so much more enjoyable to drive.

I actually like the sound through stock exhaust too. Could it sound even better? Yes, but at great expense imo.

Does stock exhaust with test pipes give a nice deep sound or is there a noticeable difference. I feel like the s65 engine needs a little more bass to it. YouTube videos don't really give you justice of what exhaust really sound like. My buddy has the Megan exhaust and it sounds awesome at wot.

It's definitely not deeper but I guess it's personal preference...You'll have to force a deep bass with a different muffler if that's what you want.

Seems like you would have to do a tune in order to code out the CELs from test pipes anyway? Talk to Alpine Alex, great work, great tune, and very affordable. (310) 560-0808. He did my tune, servotronic, coding, etc. I'm still running cats though.

test pipes. tune. underdrive pulley. might be over your budget with the three but that's what I would do. don't waste your time or money with that cheap Megan shit.

I mean it honestly depends. I bet he can do used test pipe and exhaust mod with tune for roughly that much.

What he said. Exactly what I did. With test pipes/tune, your factory exhaust will sound better. Save more cheddar for an exhaust later.

Get a tune for a full exhaust and pulley but don't install it yet until you get the exhaust & pulley installed! That way, the ECU won't have to re-readjust it self and break in evenly... Lol I'm just talking "crazy talk" but enjoy whatever mod you decide to do?

No difference, all the TP's are the same.

The difference is in the connection to the cut x-pipe...some are slip fit and some are butt-joint.

I have Turner pipes and tune and got really great gains plus a much better rasp at wot. The bass won't happen unless you go slip on something...i have an akro and the 2-3K range is much more noticeable than stock but zero drone on highway...go tp and tune and save your cash for a better exhaust later

If you like the way the Megan exhaust sounds, get it. Sound is almost entirely subjective -- it's your car and you should like the sound it makes.
