Noob question: fuel reserve warning with 1/4 tank left??

I did search fuel reserve warning and nothing came up that was relevant.

Is this normal for bmw. I guess if the car get 14 mpg and 4 gallons is roughly 1/4 tank left then I'd only have 56 miles till empty but just wanted to see if that's normal.

Thanks

Yeah, the E9XM does that. The base 3 series throws the warning at 1/8th of a tank.

That V8 MPG though...

You can code this and change it to 1/8th instead

But due to its MPG, that 1/4 will quickly become 1/16 if zipping around town

Keep it topped off bro... I fill mine as soon as the light goes on, or soon after... Too many hard pulls with a low tank shaves life off of your fuel pump, as it is possible to suck in air periodically which can quickly overheat the electric pump which uses the fuel as a lubricant and cooling element...

^ Yep, and fuel pumps that are in the tank such as this car's rely on being submerged in fuel to stay cool.

I have mine coded to 1/8 tank. only bad thing about it is that once the light comes on at 1/8 tank it's time to get gas, quick. that 13mpg ftw..

You may know from coming from an Audi, but theres a ton of stuff that can be coded to really customize your ride how you see fit. Check in the vendor classifieds, I suggest Alex@alpine for coding.
