MPE!
Has anyone recently ordered or through a defective replacement received a new M Performance Exhaust that was NOT the type 2 updated version?

The type 2 has two small tubes welded in the cans to add strength and help prevent cracking.

Either way, you should be receiving a V2. Especially, if they had to order it (vs. it being in stock).

It is a type 1, was port installed when the car was ordered. Not cracked, paint is peeling from two of the tips. Afraid it will crack after warrantee is over.

Either way, I think you're doing the right thing. So many V1s have the cracking problem. And since it takes while to develop, it might be out of warranty by then, or they just may give you crap when trying to replace.
Such BS that an exhaust THAT EXPENSIVE has such a major flaw. I wouldn't settle for a V1 under any circumstances if you're purchasing new right now. |

It doesn't seem like all V1 crack, but it does seem more prominent for those that also have a catless x-pipe. Perhaps the temps are too high?
The black paint never peeled on my V1, but I did polish the inner tips and IMO looks much better.

MPE Question Related to OP
I own a low mileage 2011 (16 000 Miles). I purchased my MPE from getbmwparts.com, the Internet Parts Department of Tischer BMW, so an OEM part purchased directly from a BMW Dealer. If memory serves me correctly, I purchased my MPE in 2013. With the latter in mind, combined with the fact that the MPE is part of the emissions system, I have the following questions:
1. How long would this part be warranted for? (My original warranty has expired, and I am the first owner (purchased new), however don't emissions related parts get warranted for longer?) 2. How do you discover if the MPE is cracked and where are the cracks forming? Interested to hear your thoughts/opinions. |

Wait... So if your car is still under warranty you can request and get an updated MPE ver 2? I have the first MPE and purchased long after I bought my M3 😒

Version 1 SUCKS. If you drive hard you will crack both sides. BMW didn't test this product properly. I'm still pissed that mine cracked inside a year.

I spend a lot of time across all parts of the RPM range and my car is stock. I only ran the MPE alone and without other exhaust components. I think that the more you push higher velocity exhaust through it, the more it will vibrate over time. This exhaust resonates a ton and almost has a negative ear ringing sensation to it. I think this all ultimately leads up to pressure cracks. I absolutely believe that an x pipe or test pipes will exacerbate it being prone to cracking. V1 is literally useful for scrap inconel. V2 or bust. But really, aside from the pretty tips, this exhaust isn't good at all. |

The last 2 MPE's I ordered were V2's. I guess there could still be stock of the V1's out there, same part number so there's no way to differenciate. I think I got my V2's from Morristown BMW on Ebay, they had the best price going. My v1's never cracked. Love the MPE!

For those MPE v1 owners that have had them crack out of warranty; that truly sucks if BMW doesn't take some ownership there.
