Just bought my first m3, quite a few questions
Hello everyone,
I just recently went from my 328xi to a 2011 e92 m3. This being my first M car I have a few questions, and im hoping someone here can help me with. Everytime I turn the car on I notice power button and EDC are always on. Is it supposed to be kept this way or do I have to change any settings? Another question is if the power button is off, how much difference does it make in picking up speed? The last question for right now until I figure out the car more, when doing 40 or 60 rolls what gear and what rpms pick up the most ? Thanks guys, feel free to let me know of other fun stuff I should know |

1. m power settings on the car
2. It doesn't. Just the throttle mapping 3. 2nd for 40, 3rd for 60. The 40 will net better results in my experience. SN: drop down to 2nd at about 40 mph and you get a nice throttle blip on the downshift |

Feen, to add to this, go "options" in M menu, and you'll be in key/start settings. Here you can set Power, EDC, and I think rev lights assuming you have DCT. As Tom pointed out this is per key should you change. Also Believe you need to stand still in order to access the key menu.

Floor the accelerator until you are hitting the button at the bottom and just tap the left paddle. Absolutely no need to hold the paddle down. |

Ah, nice! I was always told to hold it, then floor it past the resistance point, and once it downshifts you can release. Good to know, your method seems easier. I will give it a test!

ensure that the oil dipstick is seated properly before you start doing your 40-60mph roll test. The vibrations in high rpms can easily loosen it up. You don't want that dipstick flappin' around.
kthxbye

Reading the manual and experimenting with the car will answer all of these questions. Both activities are highly recommended.

Turning off the power button will disengage the JP-8 mixture and your output will be halved. Picking up speed will be significantly slower. The manual is pretty clear about this.

The power button question tho, that may take a while to definitively resolve. It may require repeated track test to deliver consistent results for advanced analytics before we reach a scientifically based conclusion.

1. Mine always goes back to the baseline settings--so none of those lights are active when I first start up the car. I have to actively select power/EDC setting, or press the M button on the steering wheel.
2. The power button has more to do with feel than sheer improvement than any sort of improvement in acceleration numbers. The difference in feel between regular and "power" is quite noticeable to me. 3. Not a street racer myself, but based on where the torque peaks on the S65, I would make sure the RPMs aren't less than 4k. Do some experimenting on what gears correspond to what rpms for a given speed. |

Pretty much all of your questions have been answered. So the only thing i can say is to drive it in manual shift. That's were it becomes a joy to drive!
And down shift at around 3-4rpms to get a good throttle blip. |
