BMW E82 Drift/Track/Road 1M conversion
Hi,
As I've now got a good start on my build i want to document it, Some of you may already be following the build either on my Facebook page www.facebook.com/DarrenRickabyDriftUK or in Performance BMW mag. I really wanted to try and get the car ready for this years British Drift Championship but due to starting a new job and working away mon-fri Ive now come to the concussion that it will be finished when its finished as id rather not rush and get the car perfect. A simple explanation.... I had my E30 V8 for over 4 years, loved every minute of it but it came to the point were 300bhp wasnt going to cut it anymore so it was either spend a few grand on turbo'ing the M60 or charge it like others have done, This would of done the job I'm sure but i needed a change in chassis and to try and challenge my driving style as well. After selling the E30 i knew i wanted to build a E82 i was tinkering with the idea for a year before but they were just a little bit to expensive but over time they have came down to a sensible price. So in August (2016) i managed to buy a 118D E82 vandalised damaged full car which was perfect for me as i planned to change most panels anyway but under the white wrap the car wasn't to bad! The Plan.... Bodywork- I toyed with many idea's, Rocket bunny arches, over fenders, custom arches but i want to go back to basics and use all genuine OEM 1M panels...... Unfortunately this being the most expensive way! Engine- it was either a 1J/2J which would be awesome and easy, M50 turbo but i decided i wanted to try some new technology(may not work) so I've got myself a N54b30 (1M engine, 135 and 335 engine) these are good for 800whp from a stock engine (500bhp on stock twin turbos) We are going to go down the single turbo and are hoping for 650WHP. Ill be using a E46 320d 5 or 6 speed box Chassis- Basically a genuine 1M is E9X M3 in disguise so I've already got most of my E9X running gear, rear subframe (with custom bits) a choice of 3.15 and a 3.85 m3 Diff, m3 power steering rack and from hubs (unless i run wisefab) Huxley was already fitted a real tidy cage in the shell Paint and Wheels - Unknown just yet Thanks to everyone that has helped me so far with the car especially all the lads at Team Sunset. So the pictures! edit PLEASE SEE MY BUILD THREAD HERE - https://www.facebook.com/pg/DarrenRi...19502958114207 Last edited by DarrenR33; 07-21-2017 at 02:58 AM.. |

Ive managed to get the floor sealed, we have used a tintable UPOL raptor rather than stone chip this should be a bit more hard wearing. its awesome to finally see a colour on the car even if its just the underfloor.
i will still be putting a the base colour and lacquer over the top of this then i can start installing the fuel tank, coilovers and subframes then it can come off the spit for good and then we can finished the exhaust and manifold off. |

Ive start to get the custom E92 M3 subframe bolted up and for the first time in a few months its off the spit! The n54 engine is back in place and now to start finishing the single turbo manifold off.
Ive managed to get a touch more done on the shell, I'm working away mon-fri so i can only get one day a week to work on the car. Last edited by DarrenR33; 01-21-2017 at 09:31 AM.. |

Looking fantastic bud been reading your section in performance BMW but glad I stumbled across this thread that rear subframe is a work of art much nicer than my scottished weathered one might be picking your brains later for info mines in getting rear subframe bushes fitted but I know a couple of my rear torsion arms(upper middle) have worn bushes and was gonna go for M3 arms but after seeing yours I'm not so sure now lol
