Should I wait for 2017 model?..
I have custom ordered my new X5, it's due to arrive late April beginning May but now i'm having second thoughts if I should wait and get the 2017 model.
Since i'm taking delivery in May, i thought of waiting another couple of months and get the LCI. Not sure what you guys think, should I or should i not? I know that the LCI model will get the new nav and I checked it out on new 7 series and it's really a step above the current Nav (full XD screen, better graphics, additional features, etc) The fact that it should also have updated front and back end is another plus. Do you think it's worth the wait? |

I'm not really following these 2017 updates.
Are we really expecting an LCI within the next 12 months from today? Do we also expect a new navigation system from the 7? That in itself really feels like a model update rather than an LCI update.

Word is the 7 series Nav is coming at some point, I have seen stories saying March/April and others like above saying late summer (which probably means 2017 in August.

Interesting.
Aside from touch technology being introduced, it doesn't sound like there's anything which can't be updated with a software update.

Just a side note, I heard that in 2017 BMW will not be offering the free 4 year/50k maintenance. It will be 3/36 with modified maintenance. Not sure if this will affect your decision

Sorry, I should have been clearer.
Obviously there will need to be a hardware update to allow for touch, but there shouldn't be any reason that a software update with the updated interface, without touch ability, couldn't be installed. Unless of course they don't approach it this way and decide that it will only work on the newer touch friendly units. It then becomes a question as to whether or not the new unit can be retrofitted or not. Personally, I am not interested for the touch/gesture capability, but rather wouldn't want to use an old interface if a new one is made available. It's bound to be refreshed and look quite modern in comparison.

How soon do you need the new car?
That is the key question. If you don't need it now, wait. If not, I quote Don Quixote: delay breeds danger. |

Yeah, you can wait for 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, or get the car now and enjoy your life.

There will most likely be new hardware to support the software. The new software requires the new hardware. |

Or try to hedge by doing a short-term lease now, giving you flexibility to jump later if you like the newer vehicle.

Guys just FYI brakes, wipers, belts and clutches will not be covered on the 2017 models.

We all know BMW constantly changes stuff....powertrain, technology, etc. Up to you if you want to wait, we don't know your situation. Just remember, even if you wait for the 2017, in 2020 (lol that sounds so far away but isn't!) they will probably come out with a brand new model....time goes fast!

The 4 year 50k warranty will still be there. They are making changes to the maintanance plan down to 3 year/36k. So basically one less oil change, one less set of wiper blades and no brakes. So not a big deal.
