MSR intake vs BMS intake

Let's put performance gains and dick size comparisons aside for a moment ...

Has anyone heard both intakes side by side or in close time proximity to one another? If so - please share your impressions of both in terms of volume and tone. Both utilize the same general filter design. Clearly the MSRs are quite a bit more serious, but I'm interested in sound alone.

My uncle with an M6 vert is curious. I've heard the MSR in person and its glorious. My uncle only cares about sound and not performance. He already has the AWE exhaust.

The BMS s63tu intake sounds and looks pretty good and priced pretty aggressively. I've had a couple customer order so I will see if I can get them to post up some reviews and maybe sound clips. You can always give it a shot and resell it if you don't like the sound as they hold value pretty well.

I have tried all three (stock box as well) extensively, but I will only spectate on this thread

Side note: George from MSR and Terry from BMS are both class acts... always available to share thoughts and ideas! Sometimes that's more important than the mods themselves!

Always true Mike. Not for me though so reselling is annoying for my uncle. He laughed when I told him the price of the MSR. Then I showed him pictures and it quickly made sense in terms of build quality and precision. Still hard to justify vs BMS on price alone. Especially when sound is his focal point.

We have had nothing but great customer feedback on the sound and quality of the BMS intake. Dont think your uncle will be disappointed

I do not have neither bms or msr, and no disrespect to BMS in any way, but I don't think it belongs on a M6, maybe a 335i

I have the MSR and have heard the BMS. The MSR is definitely louder and very likely due to the design as well as its location. If you are looking for noise only, I personally would go with BMS due to pricing, it wont be as loud as MSR but will change the tone of the car for sure. If you are looking for quality, power, and sound, MSR is the way to go.

I have MSR intakes. They are a piece of art, sound amazing and I believe add performance. Most importantly though, George has amazing customer service. He has literally spent hours discussing mods for my car and giving me solutions to issues I've had. Hands down MSR.

I started with the Gruppe intake and although it was nice I went with the MSR intake because it looks different and I like different things. I sent mine to JetJot to be ceramic coated (as well as the MSR charge pipes). George also helped me color match my intake filters to match my bright blue brake calipers. He didn't have to do this so I see it as going above and beyond when it comes to the customer service element.

The sound... Haha the sound. The sound it makes is killer. I have a couple high rev clips on my computer somewhere. It's badass!

I get a ton of compliments on the MSR intake at cruise ins and car shows. So the wild look of the exhaust is definitely an attention getter.

I have had MSR Intake installed almost 2 years ago,the sound is awesome not to mention the performance gain,I was averaging 12.0,12.1 @120mph with stock intake, after the MSR intake was fully adapted I was averaging 11.4,11.5@125mph,George is a great guy along with his number one customer service.

The sound fellas, the sound I'm asking about - for those who have seen and heard both :-)

It's not for me, it's for my uncle. You don't need customer service for a bolt in intake. No other mods happening for him. Just catback and intake.

Someone help justify the MSR costing 4-5x the BMS on account of sound benefit if that's the case. On that metric alone...customer service aside, power gains aside. I'm trying to logically help justify to him but doesn't seem right at the gut level (and yes I've heard and seen the MSR) but never the BMS on this car.

MSR is noticeably louder than BMS. I've heard both side by side.

Anyone have issues with MSR intake in heavy rain? I am looking at intakes, but the MSR just looks to be too exposed for DD in south Florida.

Thanks. Appreciate it. Wildly subjective, but if you had to rate from 1-10 where 10 is the loudest:

BMS:

No issues here. They do come with an optional sock for heavy rains. I've personally driven without it in heavy Texas rains and did not notice any water in the intake system when I pulled the filters off to check.
