Drop Exec Pack for ZCP?

Here are my thoughts as I don't make a billion dollars a year and am within a budget. The order has been accepted but not in production until the 8th week so I can change options. ZCP was announced after the deal was done.

Current order has Exec, 19wheels, adpt Susp. total of 5700 in options.

considering ZCP is 5500 minus 1k for adpt susp, 1200 for 19wheels the total is really 3300. Also I would be purchasing black grills, black gills black M3 logo. Lets just round that to 300 that's included in zcp. So zcp to me is only 3k. Then add in leather for 950.

Part of the reason I was even getting exec was because leather is included and I felt the car might be dated after a few years not having a backup camera. Heads up would be "cool" but not sure I need it. Others love it some don't even use it when they have it.

Apples to apples. It would be 5700 in options (exec, adpt susp 19in wheels) vs 6,450 (ZCP and leather). Thought or comments about my ramblings at 0500 in the morning?

Itll be 50/50. Il have my 135i for most daily driving if need be. I will probably only track/autocross 1 or 2 times a year.

Compare the features to each other. It sounds like you don't want anything in the exec package, even though it offers some nice features. How badly do you want the comp package features? Do you like the comp package rims? Do you want 20 inch wheels? Do you like the seat cut outs?

Not sure why BMW does not offer the back up camera as a separate option. from what I've read on the forums you can add the back up camera for 1200 or go non OEM for about 600. So that's an option for you if you decide not to go with exec package. Personally if I was having to make that choice i would go with performance over comfort and check the ZCP box and live without the exec package. ZCP offers a lot for the money. Good luck.

This is really all a toss up I guess. I am indifferent to the rims and seat cutouts. Don't love or hate them. Also with ZCP, 99pct of the people on this forum (including me) cannot drive this car at its limits. So how much can I really make use of the extra HP etc etc. But again, its nice to have. Ohh the dilemmas.

OP - I was thinking the same thing about the ability to get the CP at very little cost if you forego Exec. The only items I also care about in the exec are leather and backup camera. I don't care at all about the HUD. Just don't think I could give up the back up camera.

I personally also don't care for the 20" wheels but if you do, and want to stay within budget, I think you should go CP/leather. There seem to be options to add backup camera later if you miss it.

You'll have a below $70k CP car that with leather is really indistinguishable from the $80k version.

You could always drop the exec pack and just install an aftermarket backup camera for <$1,000. The bigger questions though is do you 'need' the extra power of the ZCP, maybe you won't use the extra power but you may still 'need' it haha

I voted ZCP. The 2 biggest things I wanted when Exec came out was Comfort Access haha. The car is well optioned out as is IMHO.

I decided that I'm going to skip both Exec and ZCP and splurge on green paint instead.

I would definitely take exec over ZCP. but I also would take full leather over exec.

Thanks for all the input everyone! Seems like the vast majority stay with exec package.

It's also a little bit difficult to tell because the reviews for ZCP aren't out yet. So I really don't know if it's really worth $5500.

Forget ZCP, car's already good for the track. If you do any track modifications, you'd be better getting camber plates and/or a set of 18's with a square setup. Just my 2c.

The heads up + Speed Limit info is ridiculously useful. It has saved me an untold number of speeding tickets. When I get in another car (without it), it's the most obvious thing missing/needed for enjoyable daily driving.

You didn't state how you are paying for the car, but what's another 3k really over the life of the car with you? I say bite the bullet, skip the daily Starbucks (or whatever) and go for it, but I keep my cars for a long time.

From an option standpoint, I think the Competition Package will have more residual value, but those willing to pay for that may want a fully optioned used car or one fully stripped down.

If you really have to make a choice, I'd go with the Executive Package. Like others have said, the car is a superb performer as is, ZCP just makes it better. How much better is still unknown beyond what BMW has released.

My wife's car has a HUD and I agree, if you've had it, you'll miss it.

I mentioned this in another post recently, I love the HUD. Easily one of the best features on the car. I had one 7 years ago on a Pontiac grand prix and have missed it ever since. I just wish BMW put the turn signals in the HUD too, the grand prix had that!

I believe ZCP seats don't have lumbar support, so that's another thing to consider. Besides, exec package features are more useful in day to day driving compared to ZCP stuff

That really depends on what you want. My M4 is my daily driver and I do not have the Exec package, because the only thing in it that I wanted was comfort access. I have been just fine without it.

I'm the minority here. I voted to change to ZCP. Why? I'm hoping (and admittedly it is hope at this point) that the ZCP package significantly enhances the power delivery and handling dynamics of the car, as the comp pack did on the F10 M5. If this is the case, you won't be able to easily replicate the full ZCP package as a retrofit. However, given the most useful aspect of the Exec Pack is arguably the backup camera (which should be standard and will be standard by 2018), as was noted an OE version can be added for $1200 and a non-OE version can be added for $600 (plus installation).

Personally, I am getting both. As was mentioned, $3500 over the life of the car is not much - get what you want. I made that mistake with my first BMW, a 1999 528 MT. I skipped a bunch of stuff to save money and then wished I had ordered them.

Like many have mentioned get what you want. They always say you might not regret getting an option. But you will always regret not getting one. As for me I am purchasing it and putting about 50pct down. All be it, it might only be 75 bucks a month for the additional package. However, that's my vacation money etc etc. Seems like the majority do say keep Exec over ZCP. I am still undecided. lol Again, great input from everyone.
