2017 Mercedes E63 AMG Spy shots
No doubt this next gen E63 will be impressive, but I have my doubts it will drop any significant weight. After all the new C63 AMG is a porky 3,900+ pounds.

Is the S class the only car MB put any effort into designing, because they knew they would just photocopy and reduce the scale appropriately for the other models? I always liked the E-AMG cars because they looked muscular and mean. This, sort of doesn't. I wanted to like the new C-AMG, but it's just weak looking.

That said, I still think that MB can push this engine further.........and it needs to. The previous/current E63 AMG S model had 585 horsepower and 850 Newton Meters of Torque from a 5.5 liter V8 twin turbo. To top that, the next E63 AMG should have more than 600 horsepower (in its highest variant). Anyways, we'll see. This is definitely getting interesting |

For instance, Audi can squeeze as far as 605 HP out of their 4.0 liter TT V8 so I guess it's possible........I think. |

Getting > 600 bhp from 4 litre would mean higher boost, which translates to more turbo lag

I am really interested in this W213 E63, esp. wagon so I went to speak to a MB SA this past weekend and to see if they know when this is available to order. According to their current model line up production of 2016, it is not even on the list. The best educated guess would be sometimes around March 2017 Start of Production as a MY2018.

LOL.. I didn't say the technology is not there. My point is the technology is not cheap... P1 is over million dollar ... Also who wants to drive P1 100k miles?

2) You can ask Vic55 since he has cars with 4.0 Liter Twin Turbo engines (e.g. undersquare engine configuration). |

From what I've read, the high performance turbo charged engine (>600bhp) that has the least lag is the engine in the new 488 GTB. Will definitely be sampling it in a couple of months time when the test car receives homologation status. The real deal is when a 3rd electric turbo is introduced. A few manufacturers (incl Audi) already have one ready for production, so I'm really holding my breath to see who gets it out first!
