Weird M Drive issue: M1 and M2 swap with each other

So; I was in the dealer a few months ago and overheard another M3 customer moaning/being quite aggressive with a rep about how his M1 and M2 modes did not work properly. Being in IT; I naturally assumed that he was did not know how to make it work, and was kicking off about his own inability to master the system. Had a laugh with my rep about it at the time....!

Fast forward to now; and I have had to eat my words/a big slice of humble pie. My M3 also has a weird problem with modes; which is increasing as time passes. Sometimes when I start the car M1 is the 'fast' settings, with M2 as the 'sedate' settings, as I programmed it. Other times I get in, and the modes have literally swapped, with M2 having M1's functions and vice-versa. The 'economy' display underneath the rev counter is different as well.

I'm not making this up; I have seen it in action. It does not do any harm; but is just annoying; and I believe is the same issue that the other guy I overheard was having; leading me to wonder as to if this is a bug? Anyone got any experience of this? Had to eat my words; will teach me for being typical arrogant IT person!!

Are you using the same key fob ?

Sounds like the car is switching driver's profile on you

Agreed. Sounds like you might be using different key fob. Took me a while to figure this one out myself. Also will keep different radio and seat settings.

I now keep one key fob with a different keychain so i know that is the back up.

Hope thats the issue your having otherwise ????? Good luck with that and let us know.

Just so you know, the settings are not stored in the key-fob per se. The settings are stored in any of the 3 user configurable "profiles". The active profile can be changed at any time via iDrive. You can even change the name of the profiles in iDrive. The individual key-fobs simply remember which profile was last used with a given key-fob.

Good to know and thanks for sharing. This car is next level on so many fronts. Think ill mess around with idrive tomorrow. Seems like a good Sunday thing to do. Pretty sure I'm using maybe 10% of what the car has to offer. Appreciate.
