Let me just start by saying that product r&d is very time consuming and aggravating at times. Trying to give the customer what they want while still trying to reach your own goal of what the designer wants can sometimes be blurred but mike was very easy to work with and I'm excited to do more in the future. He approached me in early December talking about how he wanted intakes for his m5. I told him I would look into it and if it's something I'm confident I can do, I would make it happen. Cut to one month later, I had the MAF flanges cnc machined, ordered my preferred aluminum piping/couplers, and did a TON of research on what I wanted to do. For this first test we decided to do a short ram intake. We dynoed the car with factory intakes and knew what it was doing that day. It was making 603whp on 20.8psi. The car has exhaust and charge pipes only currently. Removed the factory intakes, removed some of the plastic ducting from the front. Put on a 45 degree coupler to the plastic snout that leads to the turbo. That took a little trimming to get to desired length. I used this coupler so that the intake kit will not hit the hood in any way. Cut down one of the 45 degree pipes to desired length and put on a filter so I could see how it would fit. This took a couple different cuts of the pipe to get what I was really looking for and so it would leave me proper room for the MAF bracket to be welded on. After agreeing with the two tuners I work with about the angle of the pipes and where the filter would sit exactly, we moved onto where I wanted to put on the bracket. Again after talking to the two tuners for about an hour about where would be best, we decided to move it down closer to the filter and farther from the engine. Also put it on the backside so standing in front of the car with the hood open there is no sensors seen on the pipes. Marked the pipe, welded on the brackets. They welded up beautifully, couldn't be more happy with how they went together. Sometimes diff aluminums weld funky, so this was nice to see. Cut out the inside of the pipe so the MAF can bolt into the pipe. Dremeled the inside out so there is no burs or anything to be sucked into the engine. Made sure all was smooth. Installed the intakes into the car, started it up. Sounded awesome, good engine noise herd from the filters. Now to see if they worked. Ended up making exactly 600whp, but we lost 1 pound of boost. Just remember this is not with us tuning the car, just doing pulls and making sure the proper afr are still there. Which they were. They stayed right on target. Even though we lost 3whp, it was down 1 pound of boost. In the top end of the dyno graph however the car made power longer, about 8-10whp to be exact right around redline over the factory intake boxes. This shows there is room for improvement and I think that once we actually go into tuning and turning the boost up a bit, these intakes will show what they can actually do. Much more to be improved and more designs to come!
We just getting started on making custom pipe intakes 1 st we see if short ram makes more 2nd if the other route making the pipes and venting behind the grill My guy Ricky basically try to make a smooth air flow and hide the maf sensors behind to gove that sleek look also. Well dyno it tonight on stock dme Just dp and exhaust Stay tune ill update on our test. |

What was the temp like when you did your baseline?
I see that it was in 2015. Diff days diff numbers.. You should really be testing stock/custom intake same day.

Yest was what under 30 degrees but the warehouse is around 60ish even on the day we did the other car it was cold outside but the doors are close and temp inside was similar to get that correct SAE if we are basing on sae numbers Reason why we tested this is just to see if it really makes a huge or little difference or should we just go for looks? Personally if it remains the same. I would spend the money just for looks and have more room in the bay. |

Finally we get to finish my custom intakes and im loving it. It came out really nice.
Im torn between silver and black but im gng woth stealthier look so painted it black The whole purpose of this intakes velocity stack was to draw air into cabon filter my tuner and intake guy didnt want to do behind the grill filters due to water and dirt so we figure do something different. |
