Credit Report help
Happy New Years fellas!
Have you guys had a positive experience getting creditors to remove negative payment history off your credit report? Long story short I missed credit card payments for Citi Card (60 days delinquent) a few months ago. Not due to financial constraints, It was honest mistake on my part forgetting that I still had a balance of $37.76 left from the original balance of $1800.00 prior to my payment in July. Whatever statement came in the mail from Citi Card was probably over looked with the assumption the card balance was paid in full. In October while going over my monthly finances, I came across an statement in the mail from Citi Card with a pass due amount and late payment fee. I called Citi Card right away and explained that I made mistake and assumed I no longer had a balance with them, I thought I had paid the amount in full. I then proceeded to pay the balance plus late fee in full. At the time I had more important things on my mind and neglected to ask customer service rep who was eager to get my payment about Citi reporting me to the credit bureau. Fast forward to today while paying some bills online, I decided to view my credit score and to my dismay my credit score plummeted from 780 to 650. Via the site tools online, I saw the catalyst is the delinquent 60 days and late payment. I proceeded to call back Citi Cards customer service and further explain that I made an honest mistake, but was repeatably told there is nothing that can be done on their end, especially via phone. I even escalated my calls up the chain of command, but to no avail. I have always been responsible with my credit and always paid everything timely. These two items are the only infractions on my credit report, because of a careless mistake on my part. My good credit history is currently in Jeopardy, what I can do to mitigate this? This infraction will be on my report for the next seven years if not remedied. Thanks for any insight you guys can provide. |

Thats a huge unnecessary drop, something similar happened to a friend but theirs only dropped 50 points. Go finance a lambo then pay it off the next month that should provide a nice boost.

Here's my suggestion:
Pull a credit report with each of the three bureaus, and file a dispute with each where it appears on that item. They will reach out to Citi to confirm the validity of the information in your report, and if they do not respond, the information will be expunged from your report. With most creditors that's the best chance you have of getting something like that removed from your report before it ages off.

Had a similar experience, in my case I send a payment which arrived a day earlier than the next statement cycle begun and it counted as a double payment in the prior statement. I did try to dispute as it was an honest mistake but MBNA was not budging. One thing I've learned is to always set an auto-pay of the minimum payment on each of my credit cards, no matter if I pay in full or early. It is my "credit insurance" in case I overlook something or make a silly mistake. GL.

Three years ago, I started my mission to improve my credit scores due to immaturity during my college years. Go to myfico .com and read the credit rebuilding forums. They have a ton of info by people like you and me. I had bad credit and now am in the "excellent" rankings due to those forums. Good luck.

Before you go to buy anything big in the future pay down any revolving credit to 30% of limit. It will spike your credit up every time. It will help to minimize your mess up.
Good luck.
