Service oil light
Hey guys I tried to search this but couldn't find anything on this.
Today my service oil light came on. The car computer said 10k miles to go till oil change. I purchased the car dec 11th but I'm not sure when the last time the oil was changed. Could this light of come on due to the last time the oil was changed? maybe 6 months ago? I was told the gentleman that owned the car before me only drove it as a weekend car so likely the miles a year weren't high. |

Low oil level light, or change oil light? If the former check what the level var says vefore carefully adding oil (0.25l at the time). If the latter and you don't have service history available I'd change oil regardless to be on the safe side.

Its a change oil light. I'm planning on getting it changed as soon as possible.
Does time from the last time the oil being changed have anything to do with when this light comes on? I know on my Mitsubishi Outlander it will come on at 3k miles or 6 months. |

BMWs oil interval is around 15k miles which is when the service light will come up. As you will read most people stick to half that or less for the S65 engine.

Don't take this the wrong way however, you could read your manual. The blessed tech writers for BMW get warm and fuzzy when someone actually reads the manual.
You may also want to find out what other service's may be needed other than an oil change. If for some reason you bought the car without a manual, I apologize. Here is a manual you can download http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=106404 |

Owners manual is a big help. winter finally hit so I probably wont be driving the car till it warms up again. I'm going to probably change the oil my self since the dealer wants $250 to do it. I'm going to get a Blackstone oil analysis done at this time as well. |
